Anaconda Tactical-Pro 176 Lumen XR-E Cree Xlamp Torch $35, Normally $89.98

50

Hi All, I have been looking around for a good torch at cheap price. Then a friend pointed me to Anaconda sales. Thanks Ben. Bought this torch a few days ago. It is really not too bad. Well built, feels very solid with its aluminum housing. Length is 27.6 CM. Weights 0.77 kilo with battery and straps. At its brightest setting (176 Lumen), the 3 D-Cell batteries suppose will last 60 hours. At its lower setting,(I think it is 90 Lumen but don't quote me.) it is suppose to last 190 hours. I know there are other good torches you can order from overseas that will do up to 700 or 1000 lumen, but to me, 176 lumen is already fairly bright. And $35 is not too bad a buy from local store. Let me know your thoughts.

  • I currently have a LED LENSER P7. From memory its 200 Lumens and its incredibly bright. Cant see this one being much worse at all, infact im tempted to pick one up to keep in my car!

    • My good friend Ben who told me about this deal, picked up at least 4 to give away as gifts! I would have preferred a smaller one for my car, but I guess I can't complain about it being $35.

      • D sized battery is a little bit of a pain though. Might be a good for geocachers!

You can get plastic convertors that hold allow an AA to be used instead of a D.

They are the same voltage. But obviously an AA isn't going to last as long as a D.

Lastly, I bought cheap convertors off ebay and actually had to modify them to make them work (contact pressure wasn't right. You don't need tools, just your fingers. And twice as many convertors as you think you need. Break the springy bit off the bottom contact. Then dessicate a second adapter to get a top contact and simply drop it upside down on top the other contact).

It's a bit hard to explain but anyone can pm me if they need more details.

        • I agree. These batteries are heavy. On top of that, D-cells are harder to find these days. Most stores only carry AA or AAA ones. An alternative would be to use those plastic adapter that allows one to use AA instead of real D-cell. However it seems to be defeating the purpose for the torch is meant to be long lasting.
I would have thought geocachers would prefer to travel light?

    • the led lenser's are amazing, i can attest to those, havent tried these but that said, they are quite a bit larger than the p/t7 with a lower lumen rating, infact u can buy the p/t7 on eBay for only $40, worth considering

That's the bigger more expensive version. In store there is a smaller sized one that takes 3 AA batteries and produces the same lumens.

        • well! I knew someone would come up with something more interesting. I will certainly take a look at this torch. It may be the perfect smaller torch for my car! Thanks, Sputnik.

        • fyi the Torch Watchman Arlec 3watt Led 4d Metal Wm534 @ Bunnings shows up as $29.70 for me

www.solarforceflashlight-sales.com sell 800+ lumen torches for ~$30 that are very reputable amongst the flashlight community. Only problem is that it requires 18650 or CR123 batteries which are expensive compared to the likes of disposable AA's. A charger and set of 18650s can be had for around $20 though which in my opinion is well worth it.

    • I have never seen anyone selling 18650 battery let alone rechargeable ones. Does one need to order from overseas?

      • Rechargeable 18650s are commonly used for LED torches. There are Aussie sellers on ebay that sell high quality ones.

      • Simply Google 18650 and it'll return many results from Australian sellers, especially eBay. Only place i can think of for local shops would be Jaycar, but they charge an arm and a leg.

I've seen 6 packs of 18650's selling for $20 on eBay. And being rechargeable you'll get many charges from one.

Or, you could just get a 4 pack of 18650's with a home and car charger for around $30 off the solar force website.

    • can we get a product link and link to where the batteries are available?

  • Here is the link to another smaller torch from Anaconda, which I did not see in store. It sells for 20 dollars. Same output as the bigger one. It uses 3 C cell battery.
