Oppo/OnePlus devices with Lebara and Kogan Mobile

I have had issues with Lebara prepaid SIMs working with an Oppo Reno 4 (model number CPH2113)
Texts/Data work fine but voice calls won't work even with Volte enabled so I've used a spare Vivo phone and it works fine.

Ideally, I'd like to use that Lebara SIM with a OnePlus Open CPH2551 instead, and ideally with it being an ESIM.

The list of devices officially supported don't include the OnePlus Open.

Given that Oppo and OnePlus share similar technology, it might be that there'll be similar issues with the Oneplus Open as well.

Long story short, I'd normally just put the sim onto my OnePlus but it has a Aramid case with double sided tape to keep it the case secure so sim swapping is a major chore.

Has anyone used Lebara successfully on a OnePlus Open and were you using physical or esim?
How about with Kogan Mobile sims?

  • I've never heard of the OnePlus Open but I've got a OnePlus 9RT and never had any issues with any carriers, I have a Lebara SIM in it at the moment actually.

    • Good to know. Thanks

  • There's something funky going on affecting VoLTE when using some handsets with Lebara. To get VoLTE working with a Lebara SIM in a Realme C21 I had to use Pixel IMS (in conjunction with Shizuku). Give that a try, if you haven't already.

    • Ok thanks. Might have to go down that route.

    • I'll ask if Volte was showing as being enabled in Settings yet the calls were not functioning until Pixel IMS/Shizuku was used, or the Volte option is greyed out altogether in Settings until Pixel+Shizuku was used?

      • On my C21, VoLTE doesn't even appear as a standard settings option, even with a non-Lebara SIM, and that doesn't change when using Pixel IMS; the toggle to enable VoLTE is only in Pixel IMS's settings. But that's pretty much how it is on all of my handsets, which includes an Oppo A74 5G (the only other handset that I have from the Oppo stable).

What does the IMS registration state show on your handset? It should say Registered.

Is there anything in the status icons to indicate that VoLTE / VoWiFi is active?

        • Volte seems to be enabled with a non Lebara sim yet not enabled using Lebara sim, because Volte status icons appear and disappear based on which sim used.
Instructions from a UK telco giving instructions on enabling Volte for the device label the setting as 'Volte calls' as per screenshot, https://imgur.com/a/l76M6H2
But on my device that option actually does not appear.

IMS registration state not known, I tried to Device Settings > Sim status, and a few variations of ##4636, without getting any info.

          • @dancingbear: I'd definitely be trying Shizuku + Pixel IMS in that case. If you find that it works, the next thing to check is if the setting "sticks" after a reboot, or whether you need to enable it via Shizuku and Pixel IMS each time. It doesn't stick on my un-rooted C21, but I know of someone who was able to make the setting stick, once rooted.

Before you can start Shizuku for the first time there are a few other steps that you have to take, but it guides you through them.

            • @Colin2905: Voice calls work fine now with Shizuku + Pixel IMS. Thanks heaps.

To have the functionality persist after reboots, maybe Macroid or IFTTT the like can be used to automatically trigger the Developer Options>wireless debugging option that disables automatically upon reboots.

  • I have a oneplus nord and lebara sims work, however for an unknown reason the reception is worse than 4G vodafone despite using that network

    • +2

Yours isn't the India version by any chance?
If it's the global version then all the required bands are available for AU, but the Indian version is missing B28 (~700MHz).
