Replace a 3 Year Old Dell XPS13 9310 2 in 1 with ?

So I am looking to replace my old XPS13 laptop with something new but I am not sure exactly what. My typical use case is general surfing and browsing, some Office type stuff and other standard messing around that isn't power hungry. The XPS that I have today was a Dell refurb and so I have no issues with going down that path again, be it Lenovo, Dell, HP etc.

I currently run W11 and would be looking to carry on with that. I like the functionality of having a touch screen although doesn't need to be a true 2 in 1 style laptop.

One of the key things I am aiming for is a decent battery life. The XPS wasn't bad but was never awesome, and even with a new battery that I installed not that long ago, it isn't earth shattering today.

It's been a while since I have looked at laptops so what would be a decent option in today's market for something around the $1K mark (refurbs definitely included as an option).

Any pointers based on real world usage would be appreciated.

Cheers

3 years? Practically brand new! Might be worth wiping it and reinstalling windows if it's behaving really badly

    • This, because you are only using it for general surfing and browsing. For lack of battery life, just use power point, even Hut in Beach comes with a plug point these days.

    • Part of the issue is that the keyboard has started causing issues since the replacement battery went it, that was done by me so no chance of claiming against someone else for that.

Oh and the wife spilt red wine on it as well. But I will say the kb issues were my battery replacement rather than her red wine mishap.

Those physical issues are the key reason I am looking to change. I could potentially source a replacement keyboard but I may as well look at options for a new device to give me something to weigh up.

If the battery is installed wrong, install it right… if it's full of red wine, clean it out…

          Insightful, thanks.

Or maybe purchase a new one and claim it on tax as the last one is 3 years old and therefore depreciated.

  • I'm going to get slammed but your use case is perfect for a Chromebook. You can get OLED and a battery that's last for ages for less than $700

You've kinda got a point there, but …. ugh. Chrome- so nasty.

      But yeah, what Jugsy said.

    • Used a Chromebook that the daughter had a couple of years ago when she first started high school. I couldn't get to grips with it, now being the other side of 50, my ability to try and get my head around it is probably even more diminished :o)

      • There has been some big improvements of late mainly the integration of play store and it's apps (handy if you're an android user) but yeah I get your point with learning new shite.

  • I like the functionality of having a touch screen although doesn't need to be a true 2 in 1 style laptop.

Check refurb Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 13" or 14"

My typical use case is general surfing and browsing, some Office type stuff and other standard messing around that isn't power hungry.

Just turn on battery saver mode all day, the battery life will be better and no lag either for your use case. I have done it since long time ago.

    • Ha, that's an interesting option regards battery saver.

      Thanks for the Yoga option.

  • Laptop with ThinkPad
    Car with Das Auto
    Tyres with Michelin
    Phone with Nokia
Her with French redhead-brunette or German blonde
(If) his with Alpha Tony Montana

    • I gave up on French redhead-brunette and German blonde, everyone seemed to have one.

Triple Nordic………Swede, Dane and Norwegian is the way to go. Makes things very interesting.

      ThinkPad, will have a look.
