With the expected price increase - $150 extra for the digital edition. $80 extra for the disc edition.
is it worth buying now? especially with GTA6 coming out later this year.

I remember when the 3DS had a massive price cut to boost sales after launch. Those days are long gone.
Yeah, and try to buy a 3DS now…. is it crazy!
Those days are long gone.
Hopefully a similar occurrence happens with the switch 2 - with the way it’s gone this far.
This is the second increase Sony’s done this generation.
And people say the console wars are detrimental to customers; this is what happens when one console outsells the other one by a large margin.

These numbers are wrong. It's $70 and $30.
I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one. These consoles are never sold at RRP. So prices rises mean nothing. I bought my second console for $500 last Black Friday.
I was doing off the Launch price according to IGN.
I figured but your statement reads as you expect $150 extra when $80 of that happened a year or so back.
That's fair.. It does sound like that. I didn't write it properly.
The Pro has no price increase. You’ll want that for the best GTA6 experience.
Apart from the 'price increase' of having to buy a hard drive lol. Stupid Sony.
Presuming you mean disc drive. That’s actually getting a price cut, and will be cheaper than a theoretical PS5 Pro Disc version with it bundled in and price increased accordingly.

Can it play Blob Unleashed?
Hodl for ps6
To be honest, I wish I'd put the money I spent on PS5 into my gaming PC setup instead . It's just more fun gaming on the PC with faster refresh rates (smoother action), cheaper games which go on sale all the time (except not cheaper than the ones on PS Plus), more control over settings, the ability to upgrade your PC in future without having to get rid of it, the fun of tweaking it and upgrading components, etc.
It’s gone completely the other way. 10 years ago this was true, but the cost of mid tier gpus have gone out of control that you’re better off buying all 3 consoles and still coming out ahead.
Exactly my thoughts.
It was phrased as a hypothetical though, and a high end GPU lasts for a good five years or more for gamers who also do other things in life. It's a regretful lament for not being part of the master race, said group doesn't need to disabuse OP of his correct perspective. It's counterproductive for us.
Yeah i'm not playing GTA6 at 30fps
They could add DLSS to the standard but they want it for the pro version. Pro version doesn't even do 4k 60fps as standard anyway.
I'll wait for PC version
My thoughts: Only if you are a PlayStation fan then buy the PS5. I signed up for the SW2 pre-sale just because more than a gamer (I don't spend hours on end gaming), I like to have and see the technology put on the consoles and how it evolves - I enjoy that part of it. In saying that, I have the PS5 digital, and ONLY buy games, when they come on discount (I have alarms set up on Deku Deals). My backlog is huge ;-<.
I'm a GTA fan much more than a PS fan, and am waiting to get a Pro for its ability to play GTA VI. I bought and sold my first PS3 for GTA IV, and a PS3 slim for V. I'm a patient gamer like you usually, but if it's something I have the time and desire to play now, I'll get the disc today. How much do you reckon would be fair to pay for a new PS5 Pro these days? Appreciate your input as a current owner, with respect to your well-worded comment. Thanks!
I sincerely hope the video game industry faces a massive crash soon - and the industry resets.
Switch 2 just got announced - and instead of lowering prices in the face of incoming competition from Nintendo, $ony raises prices! The insanity lol.
Careful what you wish for - a tsunami takes out the just and the unjust alike. Also buy indie and local, pirate foreign corporate anticonsumer filth like the malware Denuvo.
Good to know that my non - existent chances of bothering to buy a PS5 has gotten even lower.
What would it take for you to buy one? Do you want one? Which games would you play? How much would you pay for the privilege?
I wonder if you're like me rolling your eyes at the rollercoaster of 21C consumer capitalism or if you're sour grapes at the price increase for an old good. If the former, your comment reads as such, and if the latter, and you're in need, DM me and we might help each other.
Whinging for the sake of whinging does no good, but as odd as it sounds for an anonymous online community OzBargainers actually help each other. Peace
I would buy in the right circumstances. I don't have as much for gaming nowadays as I'm trying to pose as a productive member of society, but I suspect the pull of GTA VI will prove to be too strong, so i could see me buying then. I think the biggest barrier is that I have an old tv (I bought it in 2009) which probably means I'll need to buy a new one to get the full benefit.
I have grown cynical on this website over the years, thanks for your contribution.
We're all weary these days, it's not just you. Have a good holiday if you're not working.
They are only putting it up cause the switch 2 is more expensive while less power
Vote with your wallet and stuff them all
There was an article on toms hardware where nobody was buying the nvidia 5080 and 90 and they were in Best Buy under cost price! F Them!
Tax Asians Without Representation
Looking forward to a gaming industry crash.
Between the PS5 price increase and the frankly ludicrous pricing of PS5 Pro and Switch 2, I have to ask WTF is going on with the price of gaming hardware these days?
Have we actually reached the point where the cost of these things no longer comes down over time like it always has done in the past? Or are the costs still coming down but now the manufacturers are just pocketing the savings and gouging the consumer rather than passing the reduced costs on in the form of price cuts?
They are just holding off until you crack and buy the PS5 Pro ,
so they can have a sale and reward all the patient games waiting in the dark.
PS5 digital is now $629 at The Good Guys until the 14 of May and Amazon are matching it.
If you combine with a disc drive for $124 I believe if my maths is correct it’s $753 for a console complete with a leftover side plate you can possibly use as a frisbee until the dog gets it and eats it up , or goes directly into the recycle bin.

Consoles supposed to get cheaper with time, not higher!
This is the second increase Sony’s done this generation.
Amazing my OG ps5 is cheaper 4 yrs ago than it is now.
