Be aware that when it says "cashback on plan only", it means the basic VPN only plan. If you opt for the higher plans, even though it is just the "plan" (no extra boxes ticked for additional services or options), Cashrewards considers the extra cost to be "upsold products", which is a scam.

When they say cashback on a plan, and you buy a plan (ie. don't opt in for anything extra over and above the plan), the cashback should be on the full amount, but it isn't. I got caught a few months ago.

    • just sums up CR these days, dodgy.

      • +1

@Andy01 Sorry to hear. T&Cs would be from NordVPN and seem to be the same for the other cashback sites. Cashrewards has stated "Upsold products like NordPass & NordLocker are ineligible for cashback. Cashback is only eligible on the VPN service within plans."

100% cashback is for the Basic plan (VPN service only) and excludes Plus or Complete as NordPass & NordLocker are ineligible for cashback.

    • Yeah and so did you cancel and get a full refund and redo with basic?

  • +1

Thanks OP! Charged $118.53, CR tracked for $119.09

    • +4

Hi, have you chosen the Basic 2yrs+3m ? Just want to make sure I have selected the correct one. By changing country to Chirstmas Island, it worked out to be AU$118.53, correct?

      • +3

That's the correct basic plan for cashback.

        • Thx. And will they charge in US$ if choose Christmas Island to avoid GST? I have a zero-cost international fee CC. Just use the card to pay for the cost?It doesn't show in US$ tho. only shown AU$118.53 same as above

          • +1

            @kevindo: Yes.

It'll cbarge in Aud and show on your cashrewards email when you get the confirmation of ~$75 USD or $74.95 USD

            • @AeymothSky: Thanks mate. And it'll get transferred back in AU$ as cashback? It is so complicated. Lol

              • +1

                @kevindo: Yea of course.

It'll just show an estimated amount like op from this comment thread said CR tracked for $119.09. (that's the estimated A$* amount)

When the cashback is actually confirmed though CR notes it can be higher or lower depending on the transaction rate at the time it is confirmed (as in when you can withdraw).

But yeah it'll just show on the app in A$ on your cashrewards balance which you can then withdraw.

Not too complicated it just seems that way since they make you pay in AUD, I'm pretty sure but still best to use fee free card incase it is actually USD.

Then they pay the cashback to cashrewards in USD and then cashrewards converts that into your cashback balance which you can withdraw once confirmed.

  • How long will be tracked?

  • Anyone know if "new" is defined by CC or email?

    • just use distinctive ones for both. I guess mostly likely would be the email you are using. make sure you provide different account holder's name or user's address if you provided it before, although I am not sure they would record your physical/ID info as this is only a virtual service.

    • +5

New email for NordVPN to be considered a new customer.

Have you bought NordVPN from Cashrewards before? If you have, Cashrewards seemed to have randomly rejected cashback when there is a history of NordVPN purchase in your account. Please see the comments in this post here. However this is not the case with a different cashback site TopCashback.

TopCashback doesn't have 100% cashback on NordVPN currently but offer 100% cashback on Express VPN & Private Internet Access and CyberGhost.

        Good one ! Thx

    Does it work in China?

    • The "tax country " drop down-menu in the payment page includes China. I guess they'll be able to provide VPN service no problem to users in China as this is virtual service. BUT it all depends whether the "net police" in China may be able to detect you and disable your access to their service as per you and I both know China is now allowing civilians to use VPN.

    • Didn’t work for me last year.

Astrill and letsvpn might still work, and also Mullvad mentioned on reddit.

Or, just get a travel sim.

    • No.

However Mullavad confirmed still working as of last year.

    Does it work in China?

    Does it work in China?

  • @Sunlight212 @JayCeeJay @Darude Sandstorm ExpressVPN seems to be the preferred VPN for China. TopCashback has 100% Cashback on ExpressVPN.

Two articles below recently mentioned NordVPN working in China now but several Ozbargainers have commented in the past that NordVPN didn't work. Hence ExpressVPN would probably be the better choice.

    References:

    • Expressvpn didn’t work either.

      • What about Shadowsocks?

        • +1

It should still work but I’ve never used it myself. Travel sim might be the best option.

  • I just found NORD doesn't provide China (mainland) IP, might not be ideal for me. Anyone knows which VPN service provides CHina (mainland) IP pls? Cheers.

    • Please see these comments.

      • Thank you @trixieb. But I meant NORDVPN doesn't provide China mainland masking IP. In the list of VPN server selection, I cannot find China mainland ones, but only Hong Kong IP. I need to use China mainland IP address to access some China website.

        • +1

ExpressVPN and PureVPN do offer China IPs, but they are quite limited— around 2 static IPs available for extended periods. These IPs are often flagged as non-China by Chinese websites, which rely on their own independent Geo IP databases. Additionally, the connections tend to be extremely laggy.

Fun fact: while VPNs are the most well-known method for bypassing the GFW, they are the last option on my list. There are services specifically designed for Chinese residents to bypass the GFW. These use custom protocols, smart routing strategies, and auto-renewing IP pools to minimise latency and maximise stability and usability. And are very cheap (something like 100GB/Month for AU$2, or even free).

Similarly, some specially designed VPN services perform much better than general-purpose VPNs for your need.

          • @dsesaz: Thx for your @dsesaz sharing and insight. Yes. I did some research and found that Pure VPN offers China maninland IP. but your experience of using it is highly regarded. Can you provide a bit more details on which VPNs can bypass the GFW and of good value to be used? Cheers.

            • +2

@kevindo: Sorry it's Private Internet Access rather than ExpressVPN which offers China IPs.

For bypassing GFW, if you're travelling to China for few days or weeks, eSIM would be the best choice. If you plan to live there, then that would be a topic on "CnBargain" lol (and trust me, a loooong story)

If you just wanna bypass geo-blocks set by Chinese websites, then: ufunr/transocks.

              • @dsesaz: @dsesaz Thx heaps mate. You are legend. I won't need eSIM as I don't wanna go back China to access foreign website. On the contrary, I want to bypass Geo-blocks set by Chinese website, meaning I will need to disguise with Chinese IPs. I had a look of Transocks, that looks like what I need. I will explore more. Cheers.

  • Warning:

Cashrewards rejected to pay me the cashback (~$155), although it was tracked.
They said: "Nord VPN says your purchase went through another channel! Nord VPN doesn't pay us, so we cannot pay you!"

This is a trap from either Nord VPN or Cashrewards, so that we spend there and they don't pay us back, even though it is tracked!

    Be careful!

    • There's more to the story

  • +2

I don't trust CR. Several of my CBs weren't tracked till I manually chased them up and $200+ are pending from June-24 and their excuse is it's not released from merchant side.

    • +1

Sorry to hear. I had a pending cashback with Cashrewards from July 2024 and it was finally paid 7 months later in Feb this year. I had emailed a few times before it was paid. Most of the email responses appeared to be generic. My amount is a lot less than yours and probably why it was paid eventually but I had to chase it up. Hope you get the cashback soon. You would have to remind them as there are different staff names on the email replies.

    • +1

Thx for your remind. Sorry to hear it has caused your trouble. I'd better get a refund then.

    • +2

That's unfortunate but maybe there's an issue with the device or network you're using

Fortunately for me I've got close to over $600 successful tracking and if I recall at most one or two failed tracking that I would've chased up.

I've got plenty of success with shopback as well.

Sorry to hear about your issue's though.

One way to make sure everything is tracked even if manually is record the process or have multiple screenshots as proof you used CR, SB etc.

      • Well the issue isn’t just that it’s not tracked. It stays in pending for months. SB usually tracks and approves it just fine on their advertised date so I don’t think the issue is with the merchant per se.

    • -2

Me too, I don't trust them
Let's neg this main thread as much as we can

  • Should I include dedicated IP or that won't get cashback?

    • Do not include it.

    • 100% cashback only applies to the Basic plan which is for the VPN service only and no add-ons. Choose a tax free country such as Christmas Island and the amount would be around A$118.53 (for 2 yrs & 3 mths).

      • Thanks all! 🙂

  • Anyone who has previously availed the cashback via CashRewards, purchased again and has it been tracked successfully? I see comments above saying it was not approved(random issue based on comments from other deal). Hence curious if someone purchased from this deal and tracked successfully?

    • From the comments in the other deal, it seems that those purchases did track successfully (as pending) but cashback was declined later when Cashrewards checked the history in the account. Using a new email for NordVPN didn't work.

More info in this link to a previous Cashrewards post that mentions successful tracking but rejected later.

If there is no tracking (whether new or repeat customer), it is usually recommended that you cancel and request for a refund from NordVPN under their 30-day money-back guarantee.

    • +1

Mine didn’t track but history was available. Did send a claim after 7 days (which is a condition) and now waiting.
Funny enough, CR email says the team would respond within 25 working days. So theoretically, any answer from them 24th days (from lodging claim) onwards would void seller’s money back guarantee (cancel within 30 days).
      Not worth the hassle IMO.

      • +2

It is best to cancel for a refund. More info here in a previous Cashrewards post.

        • +1

Thank you. I have raised a general enquiry using their help menu, asking this question yesterday. They respond back within 5 days. So should be ok to wait as this deal also ends in the same time. I will update this chat based on what i hear.
I use the nordlynx protocal(wireguard equivalent) for some automated connections, if not would have prefered expressvpn.

    • Yes, I bought one around this time last year and had received the cashback. Purchased another one lastnight with pending tracking within a few hours, no issue.

      • perfect.. thanks for the confirmation

  • +2

I had used CW for cashback 3 years on NVPN. No problem.

  • Is NordVPN ok for streaming content from other countries? Or are their IPs blocked by the BBC or TVNZ etc.

    • +1

I can't speak for every service, but it does a good job of accessing other nations' libraries in things like Netflix and Prime.

  • I don’t trust cr

    • What happened may I ask?

  • +1

Some updates from me. As mentioned above i am back up with a latest update. My query with Cash Rewards on being able to use this offer, even though i had previously availed the cashback(with a different/new NordVPM account) was confirmed as possible and valid transaction. Based on this i went ahead with the purchase and got the click tracking confirmation immediately, and the cashback confirmation email from cashrewards in less than an hour. Happy with this for now and wait time for the 95 days starts now. Also for those who have purchased, a reminder to turn off 'auto renewal' which automatically is turned on immediately after purchase

    • Sweet, thanks for the update!

  • If anyone have extra esim not using, feel free send to me. Thanks. Will be going europe soon
