1: 'Fat' PS3s have not been on sale for a LONG time, unless you are looking at getting one second hand this is a non issue.
2: The 'YLOD' is a non-issue, 0.5% of very early (20GB) 'Fat' PS3s had this problem, and any PS3 today is either a boat anchor or is perfectly fine.
3: The options now are 'slim' and 'super slim'. It really doesn't make much difference though.
4: You can now get a 12GB PS3, which is the cheapest, but you need to think about if this is what you really want (you probably don't).
We need a PS3 too (as a replacement so we already have all the controllers etc we need).
We need more than 12gig memory & the best deal for us that I have found is Kogan's: Sony PS3 Super Slim (250GB, Black) $269.00 PLUS shipping which brings it to $298 delivered to North Melbourne. This is a HK machine but if we have no problem downloading games we don't care (about DVDs & Blu Rays).

I ended up price matching Harvey norman 500GB with FIFA 13, except I managed to swap Fifa for Black ops 2 for an extra $12 bringing it up to $400.
