Take Home Naloxone Program (Emergency Opioid Overdose Treatment) via Participating Community Pharmacies

2070

Previous deal post. See also web page from Pharmacy Programs Administator.

<Please refrain from negative comments. Naloxone is a critical medication for saving lives in our community. Everyone deserves empathy and access to life-saving care, regardless of circumstances. Without exception.>

Under Australia's National Take Home Naloxone program, Naloxone nasal spray is available free of charge, without a prescription at participating pharmacies nationwide.

Naloxone quickly reverses life-threatening overdoses caused by opioids, including fentanyl, nitazenes, and other powerful substances, restoring breathing within seconds. Unfortunately, this also include 'party drugs' which are increasingly laced with deadly opioids, which is why this medication is super important to have on hard for party goers.

Having Naloxone could mean saving the life of a stranger, friend, or family member experiencing an overdose, providing critical recovery time until emergency services arrive.

        • I recently was travelling in a bus and saw a lady in her 50s shouting loudly and walking all over the bus. She was hopping seat to seat and then sat next to me as well for sometime. She did not smell like a drunk, is it substance abuse at play here?

@John Doh: Just regular mental wellness struggles more likely.

@John Doh: Could be tweaking, when someone runs out of a stimulant like meth they get intense cravings, a feeling like there are fire ants under your skin (meth mites), hallucinations, paranoia and psychosis. Their brain is basically sending flashing alarm bells that they're about to die unless they get some more right now, sitting still on a bus would be torture. Nasty stuff.

Or could just be regular mental health difficulties. The wait list for public in-patient psychiatric facilities is like 6+ months here, what do you expect people to do while waiting?

Hospitals will only help you if you're at immediate risk of hurting yourself or others, and only to the bare minimum point of stabilisation.

No idea what someone who isn't able to ask for help or push through Medicare bureaucracy does if the government can't even be bothered to help those who are doing everything they can. I guess you just become the weird person on the bus.

  • This is a great scheme. Another one to know about is that you can get at-cost fentanyl test kits posted for free: https://www.drugpolicy.org.au/fentanyl_test_strips_informati…

  • Why dont I own this? WHY DONT I OWN THIS!

Looking at the comments, the ozbargain demographic is pro drugs……

    • +2

Prodrugs are special types of drugs which undergo a chemical or enzymatic biotransformation to convert to active drug to produce therapeutic action in the body.

      • Cool, so these are legal 'Opioids' they are buying and not following the directions?

        • What makes you think following the directions doesn't cause physical dependence. Does spinning around three times clockwise and then swallowing the pill with your hand on your head change the way opioid receptors work in your brain?

            @Jolakot:

What makes you think following the directions doesn't cause physical dependence

I never said it did…. Maybe less Opioids for you and your reading comprehension would be better.

            • @JimmyF: Why capitalise 'Opioids'? I was distracted

              • -1

@Jolakot: Oh too many Opioids for you I take it?

                • @JimmyF: If it was too many Opioids, then I'd be sure glad to have some Naloxone in the cupboard! What a wonderful deal

Despite requesting people to avoid negative comments, it seems that the same righteous better than thou posters simply cannot resist

Its a free world…. By censoring one side/viewpoint you are adjusting the outcome. So your pro Opioid use to the point that people overdose and need this? Cool… I'm not.

      • No - we live in the real world where we accept that this happens whether you like it or not. And we would rather our citizens alive then dead. It's really not that difficult of a concept.

        • we live in the real world

Oh so in the real world we are not allowed to talk about things we don't agree with?

happens whether you like it or not

Oh so why does it matter then if people voice they are against it if it is going to happen regardless?

In some reglions it is ok to marry 9yo girls, so we shouldn't say anything bad about that because we live in the 'real world' and it happens right?

And we would rather our citizens alive then dead. It's really not that difficult of a concept.

Pros and cons for each outcome.

          • @JimmyF: I'm only responding to your second point. You can think what you want.

      • no. Firstly, do you really think posting negative comments on ozbargain would have any consequence in the slightest? It's about as effective as people posting negative comments on a bible bargain page. it's just unnecessary ranting or trolling. That's fine, whatever your hobby is, however, this is a website mostly about bargains. There is a topic discussion page on this site for debating pros and cons.

I think this is a great idea as I have worked with drug addiction and suicide help lines and have empathy for those caught up in it. And no, I am not pro opioid use

Firstly, do you really think posting negative comments on ozbargain would have any consequence in the slightest?

So why apply a censorship to one viewpoint if this is the case?

I think this is a great idea as I have worked with drug addiction and suicide help lines and have empathy for those caught up in it. And no, I am not pro opioid use

Honest'y I don't have a need for this, but if others do that is for them to manage. My issue was with the censoring of comments to be all pro views. This gives some people the wrong idea about drug use that its ok to use in excess to the point you need this as everyone is 'ok' with it.

There is a topic discussion page on this site for debating pros and cons.

Yeah its this post, but we are only meant to say nice things, which isn't really a debate now.
