Robot Vacuum & Mop (Generic Q)

Hello this is more of a generic question, looking at a Robo Vac/Mop.

All the brands specify to use their own cleaning solution for the mop as other would damage the model. Those solutions are expensive and normally in small bottles!

Does it really matter you use another generic solution or just water for the mop? Has anyone tried this? Need to factor in for costing if we have to buy a $70 cleaning solution every other month

For context in our home it's hybrid flooring and some tiles in the powder room, no pets to clean up after and we don't wear shoes in the house so no mud etc

Thanks

    One randome redditor says

Biochemical engineer here. If you want to use something other than roborock cleaning solution, you need to use something non-ionic. Most cleaning agents we use day to day are ionic. Using something like vinegar or dish soap has the potential to damage the robot. There are plenty of sanitizing agents that are non ionic and inert. Those should be just fine to use without issue.

  • Thank you, would plain water be fine?

I have lublue and just use whatever cleaner with water. The water tank is tiny anyway in them

  • We've always just used water but we're also two adults without kids/pets, and we don't wear shoes in the house.

I bought the solution once but my wife doesn't like using chemicals, so it's been largely unused.

  • Thank you, I'm glad just water seems to be ok 🙏
