Acer Aspire v3-571G-736b4g. Seems to power on...but no video

Hello Gurus,

OK…so this laptop is a fairly old one, a pass me down from my nephew after the screen went blank.

It seems to power on…but no video on screen and no external video either. I have take out the RAM and the HDD, but not entirely sure what more I can try to diagnose the issue. I would think that it should at the very least POST…but I'm getting nothing.

Can anyone suggest anything further to try? Is there a repair place I could take it to that might be able to help out?

Thanks all

Stulte

  • Pop out the cmos battery, wait a minute, then put it back in

    • Hmm…OK…Didnt think of that one. Will try!!

  • Motherboard is probably cooked.

  • You'll want to disconnect the main internal battery, hold the power button down for 30 seconds to drain residual power, plug in the charger (do not reconnect the battery yet), power on. If that works, shut it down and reconnect the battery and fire it up.

If that doesn't work, can try CMOS, can try replacement RAM, if all fails then take to repair store for professional diagnosis.

  • That laptop is old (Intel Sandy Bridge processor, not supporting Windows 11) and probably not even worth $100 nowadays — for example, theres a used one for $80 + shipping on eBay.

You could try connecting it via HDMI to a external display and see if you get any output. Don't send your laptop to a repair shop, the cost of you fixing the laptop may exceed the cost of that laptop itself.
