Any Good Ideas on How to Get ChatGPT Plus on The Cheap?

Hey gang

I've been doing my best to persist with the free version (maintaining my OzB license!!) but I really cant live without the way the paid version remembers all the chat history and gives personalised answers!

I'm not aware of any location based pricing unfortuantely..

Soo.. any wisdom on anything that goes beyond geo tricks or vpn ones?

Considering there hasn’t been any deal posts for the plus version , ever in here , I would say it must not exist . Or I guess you could resort to using deepseek

    I like Grok better

    • +3

It’s the best value by far and better on many metrics

I used Grok just now. The question asked was actually understood and answered correctly. It got to the point and didn't waffle on until it contradicted it's self.

Doctor Mike (actual doctor on YouTube) was impressed with Grok's medical accuracy.

I've been ignoring this AI nonsense but this isn't the usual garbage spewing ChatGPT does.

putting the bucks in shitler's pocket?

      • Grok is really satisfying to use, the addition of the grok button to xwitter posts really helps sometimes. And the few times I've asked grok about something, you just get the "talking to smart people is so easy" feeling.

Have you tried asking chat GPT?

I did and interestingly enough, it said to try Microsoft Co-Pilot!

Microsoft has billions invested in OpenAi so that’s why. The only way to save a bit more is to use a card without international transfer fee

I used to Share Plus accounts in groups of six with a privacy layer. I no longer do this, was banned via the Admins.
It's NOT scalable, so won't be doing it as a business.
    Try POE or Perplexity.
Down the track may launch a business but it won't be Plus, would have to be a clone so wouldn't be as good. Anyway as I am close to retirement will likely travel instead.
HINT: ChatGPT pay for a month and use it to write your own privacy service and share with friends.

Could just pay for it. It is handy and if you use Apple devices you can link in a lot of the functionality. I find ChatGPT to be a lot more agreeable in the last few months, it tells you exactly what you want to hear, it's like having a friend that idolises you.

Nice to see the reason of a great mind like Varoufakis' spreading. He gets it right so much. Would love to see him talk to a tech lord, similar to how Harari faced off Zuck.

I find ChatGPT is now indispensable for my work. Not only saving me time and improving the quality of my work, but also increasing my knowledge about how to do my job better. I wish it had existed 10 years ago, it would have saved me an immense amount of suffering.

My degrees would have been 80% easier with ChatGPT, for everything except the labs. Referencing alone would have been 90% easier.

    Hey mate
I can confirm a solution exists
It costs about $14 for a full year
You can find vendors based in Philippines, India, Pakistan etc that sell a shared license
I don't endorse or support in any way - just sharing a potential answer to your question.

In order to find, just search "Chatgpt pro licence " on Facebook and you'll quickly be able to follow the breadcrumbs

How did life exist before computers thinking for you?

    • I think this is super interesting actually, this is a whole field of study in cognitive psychology called cognitive offloading which deals with how technologies reshape cognitive routines, affect skill retention, erode social practices and skill sets, and feed back into the continuing evolution of socially distributed memory - we already refer to specialists because we trust them for some reason and as individuals we can't possibly know everything. Relying on chatgpt seems like a par for course tipping point in memory externalisarion. But generally I guess it worked because of less fancy forms like books? 🤓

So you say you can't live without a service that costs as much as a takeaway meal a month yet you aren't willing to pay for it?

Buy 20 bucks of openai credit for the API and use it in chatbox.

    Refill when you run out.

Even better in my opinion anyway, buy 20 credit for the deepseek API and use deepseekv3 in chatbox.

You will be surprised how frugal it is. Sure it won't remember your history, but you can manually store chats or stuff you want it to remember in a Google doc and ask it to review the doc before starting a chat using the system prompt.

Works very well! Sure you lose some UI niceness though, but chatbox is amazing and frequently uodatedy.

    • A similar option is buying credits at Openrouter which allows you to switch between various models. I think the UI only handles text though, so you're out of luck for voice, image generation, etc.

      • Cool is it similar to Poe?

        • I hadn't come across Poe before but it looks interesting. Unlike Poe (as far as I can tell), Openrouter costs are totally based on usage with no subscriptions or included credits or anything, but the web interface is not built for consumers - it's more of a developer tool. Simtheory is another option that looks similar to Poe, and it is built by Aussies (although priced in USD).

I don't know the answer but also been searching for a solution to this, seems not even geo pricing using VPN etc of other countries can gain a discount?

I wouldn't want a shared licence (unless some sure-fire way to definitely ensure my data can't be seen by other's in the group I guess).

  • Im kind of OK with a shared license. My questions will just get washed in with everyone elses so thats kind of ok right?

i use this, some bloke in here owns it and it has all the new models. its like $9 a month. bargain
