Native Australian shrimp have been breeding for us nicely, so the price is going down until we clear our stocks! With their signature humped back, these guys are very clear without much colour just like in our rivers and lakes. Great for ponds outside as well as your tank to join your cleanup crew.

We also have some neocaradianas as usual:
Ghosts - $4
Red Cherries - $7
Yellows - $7
Blues - $12

These Freshwater Dwarf Shrimp are a great addition to your clean-up crew. Great Algae eaters, and easy to keep.
Temperature: Optimal 20-26°C, but they can tolerate extremes from 8-30°C in the wild.

Dwarf Shrimp are scavengers. They eat algae, bacteria and other microorganisms around the tank, and will never attack other live animals. They have a minimum bio-load and are a great addition to almost any tank's ecosystem!
Don't forget to check out our plants for combined postage and keeping the shrimp happy in transit!

Keeping with fish:
The general rule for all aquatic life is "if it fits in their mouth they will eat it." Unless you have specifically passive or vegetarian fish, shrimp may be eaten by any fish which is large enough to swallow one hole. Adult shrimp grow to 2cm in length, with juveniles being at least 1cm. Conversely, any smaller fish will live with them very happily. They may eat the baby shrimp if they breed, but if you have enough plant cover, usually enough survive to keep the colony going.

If you have any questions or problems feel free to ask!

  • Will ghosts survive with a dwarf gourami?

    • It depends on the gourami, some can be quite aggressive while others are fine.

    Edible?

  • Cherry shrimp are awesome.

I just got 25 blue dreams and they slowly all disappeared :/ No bodies to be seen.

New 35L tank with cycled filter media with daily 25% water change with filtered dechlorinated water. Cycle took about 5 days to settle but ammonia never went over 5ppm.
    Ph 6.6
    Ammonia 0
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrate 5ppm
    TDS 330
    KH 50ppm
    GH 200ppm

Oase filtosmart 100 with cover over inlet and Oase heatup 100 heater.

Tank mates are 1 bristlenose, 2 otocinclus, 5 pygmy corydora, 3 guppies. Scaped with inert rock, 4kg inert gravel and 1kg fluval stratum, driftwood, anubias and pothos roots. Lots of algae to eat

    Anyone got any ideas?

I love cherry shrimp so much but it ain't happenin

    • Pretty simple, the other fish ate them. Don't have them with fish.

      • I should clarify. The guppies weren't in there until the shrimp were all gone.

The pygmy corydora and oto cannot eat fish.

Thanks for pointing out the error in my story.

        Cheers

Do you live with anyone? Do they like seafood?

    • You mentioned lots of algae to eat, what specifically?

This sort of situation is usually due to high ammonioa or lack of food.

      • Thanks for your reply.

I have been keeping 1 wall of green algae and was feeding shrimp madness optimal complete shrimp food/hikari shrimp cuisine and occasional cleaned and blanched zucchini (2 hours at a time) every 2-3 days while monitoring nitrates but saw no increase in nitrates anyway. There is plenty of biolfilm in the tank.

  • I have some goldfish 8-10cm. Would they eat them?

My pond is outdoors in Vic - would the shrimpies survive the winter?

    • They should suvive the winter if it stays above freeezing, for the goldfish, they can eat them, usually though if there is enough cover enough survive to keep the colony going, you would need to start with 10-20 however.
