Wholesale Meat Suppliers of Sydney

I have noticed as number of threads asking where to buy meat on the cheap, but couldn't find one for the Hornsby area.

As I already know of one in Pendle Hill (Pendle Hill Meat Market), I was hoping we could come together as a community to amalgamate our knowledge into one thread.

  • If you live near one, a costco might be a good one to try. My friend who shops there regularly says he often sees chefs in there buying supplies.

  • +1

costco isnt that great. There prices are normal, except in large quantities.

Their marinated meat, used to be good at the start. Just enough fat. Now, its the same price and you get chunks of fat as large as pieces of meat. Their wagyu isnt anything special. I would rather order it.

Their pork never has skin on, they charge a little more then the supermarket, double dipping and selling the skin for leather.

    wall of text

Here are some prices that you can get pretty much any day of the week, maybe a little cheaper if you buy on days other then thurs, sat, sun.

Belly pork $7.99 Prima outlet hume hyw chullora. They also sell sirloin for around $11.99 kg in 2-3kg vac pack (havent tried sirloin)

Shoulder pork, $4,99 aldi- tried recently, was good! was 85-90% as tender as belly, but much less fat (even when cherry picked)

Scotch fillet, $16.99, sometimes $12.99 on sale. Most local butchers have the "low grade" for this price in about 2kg vac pacs. The pros ask what days they get shipments and cherry pick. You want the middle section that is even in shape, minimal fat ring and slight marble. Priority for me is:
    Minimal fat ring
Even shape (not the last section of the cut)
Marble (not as important for texture since its a soft cut anyway, but would be higher priority if you over cook your steak)

tbone, hurstville (outside of westfield) $7.99 when they have price wars. There are nearly a dozen shops within 500m radius, dont like it? Move to the next one.

One thing I have noticed, if you live in certain areas you need to drive 10mins or so and the price drops atleast 20%

  • Glenmore in Glebe used to be good, but looking now their prices are hopeless. http://www.glenmoremeat.com.au/shop-catalogue
