The Slate EV Reveal, New Cheap EV Ute

Anyone else read about the launch of The Slate EV?

Interestingly, it's a return to a Henry Ford approach. Backing by Jeff Bezos makes it look a bit more serious than some other EV start ups.

The simpler production and lack of variation in the production phase would indicate an economically sound manufacturing method.

No word on right hand drive version or export plans.

Nice to see a ute that could be a potential successor to the Brumby.

Your take?

I think regardless of which party gets in eventually an EV Road Tax or similar is inevitable as EV's are eating into their tax revenue.

And just so you are aware, the largest piece of fossilised dinosaur poo discovered is over 30cm long and over two litres in volume. Equally random bit of info that has nothing to do with the discussion at hand.

    • "Recently sold our dual cab "
If we ever went back to one car, it would be our dual cab, the swiss army knife of cars
      .

      • Yeah, only reason it was sold over the Rav4 is that the Hilux was a manual, and my other half can't drive it.
Waiting to see how the Shark is received long term and might pull the trigger on one of those next year.

I don't like utes generally but I dig this idea. EV and modular makes sense. Just need them to standardise batteries and motors too.

Land Rover used this concept. Mate bought a 70s long wheel base ute, then bought a roof kit to convert it into a troupie. Thought the concept was a clever one. Wheeler Dealers did this conversion on one of their episodes.

It's a great idea and if even a few people reconsidered giant American trucks and bought one of these (or similar) the world (and roads!) would be a nicer place to exist.

Based. I loved my jumbuck, was gutless AF but got used as a ute heaps more than most dual cabs I see on the road, was pretty much extra BS free and fun.

  • I'd buy any cheap EV approved for sale in Australia tbh.

    • To do most trips around town I'd almost consider a safer version of a golf cart if it was cheap enough!

      • Lets drop city speed limits and restrict some slower/smaller cars from highways. Maybe then we could have some cheap and cheerful basic little cars with a top speed of about 80. Were kinda stuck with 'needing' full safety systems and big cars because they are all expected to be able to travel rural highways safely.

Id be happy with a little run around EV commuter with range of about 150km and keep my 4x4 ute for weekends.
