damn. it wasn't so long ago these were $5…

    • +4

They basically skipped this event for the last couple of years. I was very bummed.

    • +7

The bowls were $9.95 in the app for like a year just after Covid, they wack on another 10% every other month

    • Taco bell still has a $5 burrito available. It's not as good as a GYG burrito but it is $5

      • Normal price?

        • They seem to rotate through one of their burritos for like $5 (current one is lava crunch burrito?), no app or promo required, it's probably 2/3's the size of a gyg burrito and probably the same quality wise. $10 gets you a combo with chips and drink.

          • @Arcticviper: Its a good deal if it were at least half this size but when I tried recently I got something so small which didn't even feel $5 worth

      • +2

I can't stand to eat taco bell even if it was free. Boiled chicken, powdered guac soggy bland chips… Ugh

  • +21

how do they clean the grills?

  • +2

$10 through DoorDash is awfully tempting and great value

    • Delivery tho?

      • order $20 worth and with the help of this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/876743, it's well worth it

        • +2

plus it stacks with PRIME40LH , i just ordered 3 all with extras, came to $24.56 after service fees, then because i use the discount doordash cards from Costco, it ends up costing me $19.65 for 3 burritos with extra toppings delivered, bargain

        • Completely forgot about this and just found out I got $20 Doordash credit somehow 🤷‍♂️

    • +1

If it will be delivery only like last time then it should be a no go. They regularly have $10 Doordash deals (even $8 on Menulog) and its always too expensive with fees and delivery if there is no pick up

      • Got 2 delivered for $21.80 this morning

    • Moreover, there is a loophole as well, you can schedule a pickup delivery in doordash for tomorrow and it will still be the same price. Perhaps can have 10$ burrito picked up over the entire week i guess.

      • Its not a loophole that's how Doordash usually works but you can even schedule for $10 in GYG app/online

  • +6

Includes the Cali. Count me in.

    • Yep, me too!

    • +1

The Cali is just chips? Why is that better than rice?

      • personally for me .. I find rice in a wrap weird

        • +2

i find the white rice way overcooked and mushy (and weird adding more carbs in a carb wrap).
i usually substitute for black rice or black beans, which makes the burrito much more appealing but then makes then even more exxy.
at that point, you might as well get the cali as it comes with guac and sour cream as standard

      • Yeah I like to trick myself that I'm eating something slightly healthier than your standard fast food chain.

    lel rip

15% public holiday surcharge to apply on total orders in QLD & NT.

    • Is their Anzac Day different?

    • Will have to wait and see preorders for non-public holidays also cop the surcharge

    • Thanks. Seems like important information.

      • Looks like they've removed the surcharge. Too bad all the Queenslanders are at home.

  • +4

$11.50 in QLD due to Public Holiday. They’ve got from $5 a few years ago to this.

    No dice.

    • trying to find a word for mexican themed cuisine starting with A

  • +1

for all us suckers in Queensland (and NT) it's gonna be $11.50 then… still a decent price I guess, but not as nice as a clean $10.

  • -2

We just leave it to suckers like you

    • +3

That’s okay Makaveli, think of us sleeping in while you’re going to work. :)

  • +2

Brekkie burritos are very smashable at $10. Lock it in Eddie!

  • +2

$30 for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Don't need to threaten me with a good time.

    • -1

      Was 15$, oh well

  • +1

15% public holiday surcharge to apply on total orders in QLD & NT.

Thats also in SA. Got hit with it the other day, think its disgusting. Dont like australias wage policies, fine, just charge the customer for it. Since they need to hire more people for busy times we should all start paying extra during busy times.

    • To be fair, if the option to charge more is allowed then they have to do it. Otherwise their costs are higher during the rest of the time, if they choose to be 'ethical'.
I think all surcharges should be banned, regardless of what they want to call them, but it could very well mean a lot of places can't open at all on sundays or holidays, or have 1 staff member trying to run the whole place.

      • +1

Im 52 years old and have never had this except from them. Have you (or anybody) had this from someone else?
"….they have to do it."…no, I think you mean to say if they are on the stock market then the have a financial commitment to their share holders to do so.
My complaint is as much to the government to allow them to do this as it is for them enacting it. But you all dont care so they wont and life will just get worse.

If they dont open its corporate greed, Im sure they could still be open and break even if their profits get hit. They could balance this over a year.
And if Im (and my one plus voter ;P) are the only people willing to fuss, then expect more, lots more, and you all deserve it.

        • +3

Every restaurant, pub and takeaway, locally owned, or franchised, does the public holiday surcharge here in SA and have done for years.

The exception is McDonalds and Hungry Jacks. They attempted to, but they reverted course and now don't.

The fact you've never experienced this outside of this one store probably means you don't get out much on public holidays, which is fine, but this outrage needed to be started years ago, not today once you found out something is standard practice.

          • @BradH13: Thanks, your right, I DONT go out on pulic or most days, I can cook.
And its NOT a standard price, I can go to many shops and not experience this.
Im not totally agianst it but i still fear what it might allow.
Anyway, thanks, you saved me a few cents of ai.

If you cut the burrito in 3 pieces and mix with rice + some of those little tomatoes cut in half you can eat 3 meals with the delicious takeout flavor

  • +1

Bought a burrito from them and specifically asked for no beans. Ended up getting double the amount of beans… Such is life.

    • +20

Use this one hack to double your beans

  • -2

Maybe offering a chocolate bar to the next-door Mexican girl to exchange with her real homemade burritos!

  • How spicy is their food

    • Not spicy at all getting one standard. You can add fresh jalapenos and their habanero sauce to make it spicier..

    • +1

A KFC Zinger fillet is about 5 times the heat of GYG mild, and I don't even think Zinger is all that spicy to begin with.

      GYG is just tasty.

  • +2

I got one of their pulled pork burritos recently and it was pretty crap. It was edible, but it was the worst tasting pulled pork I've ever had and the beans were very bland and unpleasant. $14 I think it cost. I won't be going back.

    • +2

Had my usual pulled mushroom the other day and it was great, get around it 🍄

    • +3

They changed the pull pork a few years ago from something awesome to bland crap..

    • +1

same experience. trying them roughly once a year, each time regret of that - tasteless, like 10% of meat and mostly rice, no authentic flavour - can't say a good thing about it except it decent in size

  • First working day, post-election celebrations or commisserations.

  • +1

Much prefer GYG over Mad Mex, I get the feeling some of their tactics are not very honest, and crappy app.

  • +1

Doesn't say any limits. Does that mean I can order 4 Cali burritos?! O_O

    • +2

Yeah unlimited I'll probably be ordering one for each day of the week

      • +1

Thank you! That's insane value and a great plan! Next week's lunch sorted!

  • $5 or no deal

    • +3

      No deal I guess

  • What are they doing for Cinco de Cuatro?

  • +45

HOLA! Team GYG here, we have made a decision to remove the public holiday surcharge from both QLD and NT restaurants for Cinco de Mayo. You will be able to get your $10 Big Brekkie Burritos, Burritos & Cali Burritos on Monday, with no surcharge.

    • Thank you, good decision!

    • Thanks T&Cs updated

  • Anyone earn Gomex points for this transaction?

If not isn’t it better to use DoorDash with the discounted GCs

    • +1

I received Gomex points on my order for tomorrow

  • FYI - you can preorder for the next few days and it’ll still be $10

  • If I'm not mistaken, you can pre-order on the Doordash app until the 18th and the price remains $10.

    • That looks like a usual stuff up by Doordash. Promo terms for GYG55 (55 for 05/05 I assume) say 'Offer only valid for 05/12/2025 from 5AM-12AM, or until redemptions last' which is a hilarious fail

  • Seems to be a lot of mexican food lovers in ozbargain? Not even 50% off and so many upvotes?

    • +3

a shitty sandwich from 7 eleven will set you back 9 dollars btw

      • Hey you can sometimes get them for $5 with the app. They are still shitty though.

  • +1

Considering you have almost $20 for a bite at most fast food joints it’s not too bad.

  • +2

    How are the lines everyone>?

  • +3

Not cheap and it’s such average food. Not spicy enough, too much cheap filler ingredients and they never give enough coriander.

  • +6
    • Was that from today? Damn that looks awful

      • It looks like their every day burrito tbh. Not just today

      • Yes, with around 50 orders this year, I'd be happy to pay full price for the same quality.

    • +1

The few times i've ordered from toowoomba gyg thats what mine looks like. thats why i don't buy gyg anymore and don't get the hipe. Its just fuggan rice.

  • anyone know if they freeze well?

    • They do not.

    • +1

You don't need to freeze if you can pick up later by preordering

  • +2

I ordered through the app at 10:30 for pickup at midday. Turned up at 12 and waited to 12:40 for it to be ready. Crazy lines. This is Australia Square Sydney.

    • +1

i ended up cancelling. australia square was bedlam and a disorganised mess. staff were very stressed

      • I thought about doing the same superbird. Forgot to mention above while I was waiting I got a notification from the app at 12:10 saying my order was ready. I guess you’ve got to be pretty wait on days like this.

  • +2

Super busy at North Point in North Sydney - order was confirmed to be at 12.15PM in the app but staff advised me that the new eta was 1PM. Unable to cancel order, had to get lunch somewhere else to be back on time at work :(.

  • +3

Don't bother with Adelaide CBD. 45+ min waits disorganised mess.

  • +3

You can stack the code with 40lunchau and get a bowl and cali burrito for 12 pickup!

    • On doordash? Mine keeps saying error/ineligible?

    • Says my account is not eligible for that code
