Recommend Good Skoda Mechanic in Melbourne (or East of Melbourne)

I have a Skoda Octavia diesel with a suspected cracked/leaking gasket in the exhaust manifold.
Mechanic has quoted $1500 labour for a $100 part.

Can anyone recommend a good independent Skoda mechanic (not a dealership or similar) in Melbourne or to the East of Melbourne out to Bairnsdale? (I tried googling but just got rubbish)

Thanks.

Edit, thanks for everyone's help, I someone hook me up with a mechanic who will do me a 'favour'
Also, don't buy cars with silly engine layouts that are a PITA to work on

Skip the mechanic and trade it in on something reliable before something else goes wrong.

    • Now there's an idea.

Doesn't need to be Škoda specific. Any mechanic who regularly repairs VAG cars will be more than familiar with Škoda

What's everyone's beef with Skoda? I rented a manual Octavia once and I quite liked it.

Ozbargain hates everything except for Toyota Corolla/Camry

Renting a Skoda is like the honeymoon. Owning one is like the divorce.

      and I quite liked it.

Sure, Renting is great as you don't have to deal with the repair costs. While owning you do.

I've rented VW/Skoda before and sure they have been ok cars. But then lots of people at work have owned them but complain about the servicing costs and endless issues once out of warranty etc like what the OP has.

    • We’ve got a Kamiq Monte Carlo and it’s been a great car mechanically. With that said, it has a lot of interior rattles for a 4 year old car with 48,000km on it.

    • Diesel VAG car, used for city driving

    • Most comments here are by persons who never owner a skoda/vag.
They are quite good cars. I have owned couple and never had any major issues!…

I had an Octavia for 13 years/205k km.

It was a great car. Exceeded my expectations in terms of reliability, comfort and gadgets.

Was your quote from a mechanic or a dealer?

    • normal mechanic, not a specialist either

http://www.volkwerke.com.au/ - quite good and reliable but not cheep either.

    • getting web page blocked - malware ???

  • Volkscare in Boronia always looked after me. A fraction of the price of the stealerships.

    • thanks

      • Funny name "Volks care" or "Volk Scare"

  • The part cost is irrelevant.
Removing a turbo & exhaust manifold can be a real time consuming pita.

    • that's exactly the case here, inlet manifold, turbo, and exhaust manifold are all on the back of the engine with little room to the firewall. it's crazy how they designed this
