CarSales.com.au - How to Contact Sellers

Have others received replies when they message sellers on Carsales.com.au?

I have sent numbers of messages to several sellers who have not listed a phone number, so the Carsales message service is the oply way to contact the seller - in 2 cases over a 4-m0nth period. Carsales confirm my messages have been sent, but no answer. A couple of other sellers have numbers listed, in one case when I called it the person who answered denied any knowledge of the advert, in another case the mobile number listed wasn't valid.
I realise some people leave the advert up after selling the car, or deciding to not sell. I have received advice from 2 sellors that their car has been sold, but the advert is still up there.

But how many sellers put up an advert with an optimistic price, refuse any contact and wait for a buyer to submit an offer that is above the range shown on sites like Redbook?

When one sends a message using the Carsales service an message immediately pops up stating you will receive an confirmation email. Carsales tell me that email only arrives when the seller reads my message.

You send a message, you get a reply, you organise to view/buy the vehicle…

If they don't reply, you move on and you consider it as “their loss” or that there is a high possibility that it is a scam or already sold…

    You are totally overthinking this.

Swipe fingers going like vacuum driven w/screen wipers ( on full bore) , while waiting at the stop sign.
Also a worm diet may lay ahead.

    • Don't expect a reply

        That's 'an' reply.

One must be sure to use proper English, when one is using ones spoken or written abilities.

Have others received replies when they message in topics when creaters ask questions on ozbargain.com.au

we have posted a number of replies in a topic and they dont respond. im sure the message got posted, i can see it.

  • I have been on the other end recently - selling a car on carsales and have come across these:

    • carsales app is very buggy.. a lot of times, I get a notification a message is received but when I click on my "inbox", nothing appears

    • the message appears magically when I log into the website on my computer a couple of days later

    • On the same note, I received a lot of rubbish messages, of which I find myself start to ignore more and more as time went on

"I have cash…" >> not sure what difference this makes… either way, I have to see the money first in my hands or my bank account before I sign the transfer papers anyway

Starts lowballing without even bother asking any details of the vehicle or wanting to come and have a look at the car

Having said that, if you're keen on the car, I suggest messaging a couple of times (in case of a fault on carsales' messaging system) and perhaps ask more valid questions to start off with.

    Good luck

  • Had the same issue in the past. I just looked on other platforms till I stumbled on the same car listed there. Give it a go, you never know. Many sellers multi list cars to sell them quicker. I found Carsales to be a bit of a dog, but I guess they at least have some layers of protection VS the usual GTree /FB swamps.

  • I check Gumtree, or google search the boiler plate stuff in the ad.
