    Where?

    • +1

      Gadigal Metro Station, Sydney

        What's a gadigal?

        • +4

Assuming you actually want to know - Gadi-gal means people of the grass trees. They were the people living in Sydney before white settlers arrived.

There's some info about grass trees here - https://www.botanicgardens.org.au/teachers-and-schools/teach… - a type of flora unique to Australia

            • -8

@Jugganautx: Sydney didn't exist before the settlers arrived….

            • +8

@Jugganautx: A lot of people do care - it's actually fascinating that we have the world's oldest living continuous civilisation here in Australia. Whatever your personal reason for intentional ignorance, don't assume that the majority of people aren't curious about the history of the island we live on.

              • -3

@Jayphen: but they didn't build gadigal station nor sydney tho? why not naming it after those who build them? those engineers, workers, builders, etc.

                • @RTX9090Ti: Names of things are often chosen for historical reasons, such as in this case. I am sure you understand that not every construction project is named after the people who built it.

              • -2

                @Jayphen:

                world's oldest living continuous civilisation

And what exactly did they achieve in all that time?

                • +7

@Mike Nolan: I know that you are not arguing this point in good faith. Nonetheless, I think surviving and thriving for 65,000 years and building a deep understanding of the continent and its flora and fauna over such a period of immense changing is in itself an unfathomable achievement. I think you are approaching from a personal viewpoint of what constitutes "achievement" (presumably Western notions of progress) and it would be worth broadening your definition.

                  • -3

@Jayphen: It was the British migrants and other migrants who build this country from swamp and bushland to metropolis that we all enjoyed here today. They also created the centerlink so all the bludgers can enjoy.
Maybe its time you give them the recognition they deserve? instead of demanding them to respect the welcoming to their own country that they built?

                    • +5

@RTX9090Ti: We can do both, and we do. The vast majority of our place names are British.

To be frank, your positioning on this is an embarrassment to our country. This land and the people who have lived on it have a rich cultural history that you are rejecting for no clear reason other than pointless outrage. I am sure there are more deserving targets of your derision than the minority native people of this continent.

Seems like they really hit a nerve if you had to come back for your hat. It's amusing watching the 'F your feelings' crowd spiral over a train station name.

I pay my respect to this deal, past, present and emerging

Got a the Iced Latte free the other week via Flybuys. It was pretty awful compared to Boss.

    Would not pay for one.

    • +1

Yeah I tried one and couldn't finish it. Don't understand how you can get coffee, sugar and milk so wrong.

      • +1

I finished mine, but I was in a masochistic mood, so enjoyed the pain…

      • Coffee sugar and milk that is shelf stable at room temperature.

It's a low-acid product, so c.bot spores need to be addressed. That could be done with UHT, but in cans they're most likely retorted - heated to and held at something in the neighbourhood of 121°C for 5-10 mins.

It's tricky to get the formulation right so that it looks and tastes half decent after that and you don't end up with caramelised sugars etc.

Coffee is a tricky one, and there are plenty of small players who are used to canning low-risk stuff like juice or beer.

    • The cold brew is way better than Boss. Infact it's actual cold brew not just cold black coffee.

Edit: apparently they do both but I've only tried the cold brew

  • +2

Had long black one before and wasn’t too impressed. Says made in Japan from local and imported ingredients so I wondered if just rebranded or actually Toby Estate coffee?

    • That's interesting feedback - I know they used to have them processed locally.

Can anyone confirm country of origin on these?

      • +1

The locally made one (and far superior product in my opinion) was actually the Oat Milk Latte variety.

This Iced Latte variety was introduced later and is indeed Made in Japan. (That's not to say that I have anything against Japanese canned coffee in general - I've actually been a fan ever since I first visited Japan over 15 years ago)

Coles used to stock the Oat Milk Latte cans but have since stopped keeping that line and have switched to this poorer quality Iced Latte product

  • Reject shop has 4x Allpress for $4, sometime you get what you pay for…..

  • Apparently Toby's Estate at Chippendale is the world's best coffee shop.

The beans should be just as good, but the can drinks are imported, maybe just licensed drinks, not the real deal.

    • +1

I also saw that, but one shouldn't compare a freshly brewed coffee (which is what they were awarded on) to coffee that has been canned and then shipped across the world.

  • +2

These are okay, not as good as Boss but I'd still drink them.

(profanity) anyone that tries to make a free coffee deal political. Go whinge about it on Tik Tok. (profanity) attention whores.
