Garment Steamer vs Steam Station – Worth the Switch to Save Time and Effort?

Hi all,
I'm considering replacing my current steam station and ironing board setup with a garment steamer to cut down on the time and effort involved in ironing. I mostly deal with everyday clothing (shirts, blouses, trousers, kids uniforms) and would love a quicker, less bulky solution.

Has anyone made this switch? How well does a garment steamer handle wrinkles compared to a traditional steam station? Are there any big trade-offs I should be aware of?

Appreciate any insights or recommendations!

In particular, I was looking at these models:

  • I've been using a Tefal Pro Style One for a few years now and have been happy with it. More convenient than whipping out the full ironing board an iron setup. I really like the look of these all-in-ones with the built-in multi-angle boards though. My one just comes with a heat-resistant glove to hold behind the clothing but the price of the ones you linked seem a little excessive in price.

Thank you for the feedback! Do you think it's cut down your ironing time? And has it replaced your iron completely?

I was looking at those models because they had the tilting board which I envisage could sort of function as a quasi-ironing board in case. But maybe something less elaborate could work as well…

      • It does save a bit of time since I always have it set up in my spare bedroom which was not the case with the standard ironing board and iron. As for the actual ironing I think it's probably faster too since I don't spend as much time positioning the clothing.

I got rid of my regular iron and ironing board and haven't felt any regret about that.

          Ooo nice… a convert!

  • i use a garment steamer and its awesome. i don't iron anymore because it burns an ruins clothes. also, you could put hard creases in your clothes. never tried a steam station, but don't need it as the garment steamer takes care of everything already.
i love the steamer so much that i bought a travel steamer when im on holidays. i don't even use the provided iron in the room and just use my travel steamer.

    • Thank you for the feedback - sounds like you've gone all in!

  • If you don't own any linen or 100% cotton garments, possibly. The Philips is rated at 90 g/min; the Tefal 90 g/min with a 200 g/min boost; compared with the cheaper Braun CareStyle 9: 170 g/min and 750 g/min steam shot.

    • Thanks for this! I should look more into the specs.

  • Are these easier to get wrinkles out of clothes than a traditional iron or at least easier to use? The other half does the ironing but they come out with more wrinkles than they started

    • Steam station will halve her ironing time
