Hey everyone,
Was just browsing the web for an OLED tv and found the LG C4 42 inch for $1188 at JB. Seems like a good price if you are looking for one.
Hey everyone,

Seems like a pretty decent deal considering the LG VIP pricing is $1,169.10
LG VIP (or edu) is out of stock for me (2000 postcode)
One of the best gaming monitor
Wait are people really using this for a computer monitor? How would it go for a work setting (not gaming?)
I daily an older version of this and the size is great, Microsoft publishes a set of utilities called powertoys and that includes something called fancyzones that makes a massive monitor like this very, very usable.
The only downside is when it holds one colour across most of the screen with documents and other applications it dims the brightness very agressivly until you move something different coloured quickly across it. That may have been fixed in the newer versions however.
I also had to adjust my desk setup a fair bit to sit further back than I was used to, but that wasn't a big deal.
Holy hell you have just changed my life. I rock a C2 42" and a 24" QHD monitor in vertical mode next to it, and it was doing my head in that i couldn't set up vertical snap zones for the vertical monitor on Windows 10. Fancyzones has fixed it for me! Thank you!
The gradual dimming is a "feature" in the TV that apparently can be turned off with the aid of a service remote and messing about in its menus.
Don't even need the service remote.
Color Control from Github can do it all, just find a guide.
Also, highly recommend doing it.
I think LG made this with a key idea being people would use it as a PC monitor. Not overly sure what good a 42" premium TV would be for all but edge cases if it didn't have monitor credentials.
Anyway, I've been using as a monitor for months. It's great for work, great for play, and great for both. Seriously good stuff. Doesn't take long to accustom to a 42 inch screen. Maybe a day or two. Mine just looks like a normal sized screen to me now.
Other comments have given a lot more feedback on how great this is as a monitor, I use this to code on and it's amazing for development. I can never go smaller/oled.
One thing, depending on what you do but if you're worried about burn-in, you can use completely black themes on your programs/desktop background, along with hiding the taskbar.
Also the LG Companion app is great - it turns on and off the tv when the computer goes to sleep or turns off.
Hopefully the 48" goes on sales soon. Need it for my bedroom
I've been hoping since end of C2 my friend, I gave up hoping end of last year when this 42" was on sale for like 10xx pretty sure and just picked it up. The 48" basically never really goes on sale.
I saw today Videopro has it for $1,548, maybe JB can price match.
Have a LG 38 UW with usb-c which is great, but got a crack in the middle of the screen whilst moving homes. Panel replacement alone costs over a grand. Bought the UW thinking I will get back into gaming but never did, so only using it for work + youtube/movies. How would this compare if anyone has any experience using it as a monitor?
It's good if you have a deep desk. My desk is 60cm and it's a bit of a struggle for me to get used to. I changed from a 34" UW + 29" vertical dual monitor setup to a C2 42". The colours and resolution is unreal but I find I had to default to UW mode (with black bars on the top and bottom) just so I could comfortably fit everything in my visual range.
What's the ideal viewing distance for this as a gaming monitor
I'd say probably closer to 80cm depth desk.
i have a 750mm desk and this tv but a c2 model and find it the perfect distance to game etc
Thanks guys I will have to check my desk first.
Interested to hear how people with 750mm desks go with this size TV.
The LG page specifies Recommended Viewing Distance (Metres) as 1.7 m.
The LG recommendation is for content consumption, such as watching movies and TV shows. It's a different use case if you're using it with a mouse and keyboard for work or gaming, looking at small text etc.
I would suggest a 70cm deep desk as the absolute minimum for a 42" screen, it's a miserable experience if you're forced to sit too close to the TV. I also use a heavy duty monitor arm from Desky which gives me a bit more freedom to adjust the exact distance as well.
I have a older model I had it all the way back on the a 60cm desk, bought a bigger desk 75cm but still leave it same as old desk, I just got used to it I guess and I don't have the best vision and don't like wearing glasses lol.
Keep note these only have a 1 Year warranty, looked up my lg c2 after it wouldn't turn on the other week, what a joke ay. It did turn back on after a power cycle but could be heading out.
The real deal is when you grab the 10% gift cards from Coles. That turns this into an absolutely excellent price! Have it as a monitor and love it.
how do you get the 10% gift cards from Coles?
There's a post up with the current ones, too lazy find it but you can search. Basically you by heaps of gift cards that are 10% off at the moment then you use them to buy the TV in store. You need the ones that say JB HiFi on them.
I snagged the 83' for $4.5k on the weekend, best TV ever. No regrets!
Who was selling it at that price?
HN and JB but JB didn't have much stock so I just pulled the trigger with HN! I think they were price matching each other from JB's one day tv sale on Saturday. To be specific it was $4580.
Thanks. Ill start pestering them.
The picture quality on these OLEDs is unreal. I’ve got one from a few years ago and every other tv I see pales in comparison.
can you share receipt for price match purposes?
Wish monitors were so cheap. The curved LG 45" (older 1440p) is still $2250
people use this for monitor within the thread. What's the difference?
no DisplayPort socket on this (or other) TVs and older gfx cards don't support HDMI rev that can output 4K 120hz
Can recent generation of macbook air output 4k 120hz using hdmi adaptor?
I thought modern monitors use usb-c? Does this one have?
I've been using the LG C2 42" OLED as a PC gaming "monitor" and it's the best. Could never go back to anything smaller.
Should be nice for the toilet or bathroom
Does the steam not fry the tv
How are you guys using this as a computer monitor???
Are you all sitting like 2 metres away from your desk? lol
My desk depth is so shallow, so looks like my only option is to pay for overpriced actual oled monitor.
Buy a deeper desk. Problem solved.
Need 75cm - 85cm viewing distance for this.
80cm deep desk for me, and it's perfect.
Great for productivity. Desk is 70cm deep and it is a comfortable viewing distance. I agree with others the auto dimming is annoying but it's not a deal breaker, takes .5 seconds to come back after moving a window around. Use fancy zones, set in PC/gaming mode, text looks great even without clear text tuner. Great price and stack with coles GC to get another 10% off
It shouldn't dim in SDR mode if the input is set to PC. PC input mode caps the peak brightness to avoid ABL.
Good to know thanks ill try that
$1,052.19 on LG VIP if you ask for a 10% Code
Shopback also has a 1.5% cashback, sometimes gets tracked.
Sorry what's LG VIP? Is this like education store or do you mean asking the normal site for a 10% code?
Yes education store, idk if theres other ways of acessing it other than being a student
You're awesome! Just asked for a coupon and bought it for $1,052.19
Enjoy the $130 additional saving :)
what postcode are you?
Gold Coast, QLD - 421*
Thanks for the tip! Temporarily out of stock for some postcodes
Has been out of stock in sydney post code for weeks
How do you ask for 10% off code? Is it a matter of emailing them?
Ps. I do have access to the edu store.
Use online chat, that's how I got it.
Thanks, I must’ve gotten unlucky. Chat told me to ring or email LG for “further assistance with your concern”.
is that almost 45% off on RRP?
My heart stopped when I saw C4, still waiting on a good deal on the 65…
65 at that price, all you will see is "out of stock" by the time.
Nah I mean I just saw a C4 deal and got excited, didn't look at the price or size. If it was 65 for this price is buy 3.
Hope they do a deal on the 55"
been using one as a monitor for 4 months as a WFH coder/gamer. its a pretty good monitor
definately tempting, but to run FPS games at 4k at 120hz you would need one hell of a GPU, not been sure the 5000 series can output that much
Upscaling is really good these days so it's not an issue. You can always lower the settings to High instead of Ultra. And older games like CS2 will easily reach a 120fps target.
Looks like Harvey is doing it for $4 less at $1184.

G4 has a better panel.
It also costs a lot more.
G4 doesn't come in 42 size.
Just received my C4 42"—loving it! It's an unholy combination with the RX 9070 XT. Everything runs smooth as hell—for example, Oblivion Remastered hits over 100 FPS on ultra textures, and Diablo 4 also stays above 100.
Definitely recommend. My only regret is not getting it sooner.
By the way, once you get it, make sure to install LGTVCompanion https://github.com/JPersson77/LGTVCompanion. This TV will function as a proper monitor with wake/sleeps.
And don't forget to switch to Game Optimiser Picture Mode, and turn on the 144hz and AMD FreeSync in Game Optimiser settings.
Also, TV doesn't come with HDMI cable, don't use your crap HDMI on it, order a proper Certified HDMI 2.1 cable (eg. Ugreen), otherwise it won't function correctly.
Mate that is the best tip I have read ever! Thanks 🤣🙏🏽 just got the C4 42 today from JB, managed to get them down to $1000 and then locked it in with 5% off gift cards. So far, it is great!
How did you get JB down to $1000 ?
They were clearing a demo display unit and had a sign under it saying “make me an offer”.
So I made them an offer, they wouldn’t go less than $950 but then as we stood at the tv I saw ghosting and burn in, mentioned it, and Jb said they can’t sell that anymore.
So they offered me a new one at 1080.
Counter offered 1000.
Manager agreed.
Then used my 4.5% gift card discount with Bupa, ending at $955. Very happy :)
Perfect for a dual monitor setup
