    Generic activity trackers / smartwatches generally have really janky / unoptimized smartphone companion apps that you might need to install to sync data and send notifications to the watch. Might want to look into exactly what app it needs before you buy and read the user reviews on things like connection issues, hidden adware (the developer makes money from you installing the app) / overbearing permission requirements and excessive battery usage.

    Don't expect them to be as polished as Samsung Health / Google Fit / Amazfit app.

    last year i got a xiaomi band 8 active for pre-teen who only needed the time/steps and ability to change wallpapers

    yes, supplied strap is too big, but you can easily get a nylon-velcro replacement wrist strap to fit smaller wrists

    I thought about this sort of thing, but I recently spent double and got a kids Garmin that does has 1/4 the features. The app is also pretty ordinary and sync is also crap, but its in the name of making the battery last a year. And do I really need all the extra health anxiety for my kids as well? It basically lets me know they are being active enough and that's that goal.
