Harassed by Police Officer off Duty

First time poster. Today I was driving down Punt Road (Melbourne) was back to back traffic around 12 pm. The traffic wasn’t moving so I zoned out a bit. Guy behind me in a Ford Ranger starts beeping. I look in front of me and the space is around 1 meter.

Anyway, two minutes later same thing happened again. No traffic lights missed still in traffic guy in front of me just creeped up a couple of metres. This guy honks again then I see him hop off from his Ranger.

Thinking he was a nutcase I lock my doors. He then pulls up a badge quickly and starts yelling. Get off your phone you f***wit and concentrate on the road. I didn’t even have my phone on me as he looked into my car. I couldn’t really see his badge as he put it away fast enough and hopped back into his vehicle before I got to tell him anything.

I thought that was ridiculous behaviour. I got his number plate. Would it be worth reporting that behaviour?

I also saw him do some dodgy driving (changing lanes right after traffic lights where there are no lines. Cutting people off. he wasn’t in a police car though and had what looked like his wife who was shoving chips down her mouth.

        • This post from Creesy is spot on. I don't think OP understands that it doesn't matter whether you're right or wrong, it only matters that the cop is not wrong. This is going to end in a fine. You poke the bear, you're gonna get scratched. Worse than that, OP ran back to poke the bear after he was already inside the house. Best of luck OP, but I dare say this may not go the direction you want it to.

          • @cunningdrew: Even if it does result in a fine, no doubt OP will have trouble being accountable and copping it on the chin. OP keeps telling people “diDnt MiSs a GreEn LiGhT” - somehow they seem to believe that is the true test of paying attention, and nothing else matters.

I didn’t have my phone on me. He was walking aggressively towards me and looked in the car and when he realised there was no phone there he shoved his badge and walked away.

  • Cut him some slack - Ranger drivers are probably feeling pretty BTFO following the crushing defeat of their 25c-a-litre God-King.

  • Why is it always the Ford Rangers.

    • Makes the fable more believable

  • What a great clickbait. Firstly, the ranger driver did not identify himself as police officer, so it's inappropriate to have a post with such topic. So, I am not sure about your indentions of this post with assumptions that a police officer has bullied you. If you are feeling unjust go to a police station and file a report. You are wise enough to note the Ranger rego number great they have somewhere to start with.

Impersonating a police officer in VIC may end up in 1 year jail. Also, if the badge flasher is legit his actions will be reviewed by his senior, they take this seriously.
