Buying a Kindle for My Daughter in London

Fellow OzBargainers, I need your help. I want to buy my daughter in the UK a new Kindle Paperwhite. But I cannot find the cheapest way to get one to her.

On the Australian Amazon site, the Kindle is AU$279. When I try to have it delivered to a UK address, it says that item cannot be delivered there.

When I change to the UK Amazon site, the price is AU$394.69 !!

I asked Amazon for advice via chat and the person just suggested paying $394.69

I have Amazon Prime membership if that helps.

  I faced a similar dilemma years ago. After finding out how much it would’ve cost to post it internationally (Auspost wouldn’t do it due to the lithium battery, couriers was in the hundred $), I ended up ordering it from local Amazon for the recipient.

  Best to look for a deal locally in UK rather than Australia + ship it over, you'll get slogged on the shipping fee.

  That’s just regional pricing for ya. Not much you can do other than buy it here and post it over.

  Havent looked at postage but there are UK retailers selling these - RRP seems to be £159 ($329)

  Bearing in mind different plugs etc, you may be able to order from one of them?

  When you sign up for an Amazon UK account, log in and look at the product page for the Kindle on amazon.co.uk, set the delivery address to your daughter's London address, what price to you see?

      You could just buy it here, bundle it with something personal like a book with a dedication, and then express post it to her. Might work out cheaper.

      Not once you factor in the shipping cost from Aus to UK with appropriate insurance.

      Do you/does she know of anyone going over to the UK anytime soon? That’s the only way you’ll actually benefit from the difference in cost without paying shipping.

      Right now the price in UK is £170 for the paperwhite without ads. Based on Xe.com that comes to about $350 so it doesn't look like you are getting a good conversion rate from Amazon.

      Currently the paperwhite is discounted in Australia - the regular price is normally $330. Camelcamelcamel shows that the UK had it discounted to £125 last December.

      Overall the pricing seems similar, but the timing of the discounts is different. If you are prepared to wait there will probably be a similar discount on the UK site in future
