Essentially 5% back in points, stack with 5% price beat and 10% gift cards and you’re laughing. Effectively 20% off a (presumably discounted) competitors price after discounts and points.

You'd look so OzBargain using stacks of gift cards after requesting a price beat, then ALSO scanning your OnePass linked Flybuys card for 10x points lol

"Yes, hello, I'm here for the brand-new $380 iPad. Oh. $489 you say?"

        chuckles

"You must be new here. Well, let me show you just how wrong you are…"

waits 10 mins for price beat verification, 20 mins for stock retrieval, then pays with 19 $20 gift cards

"Let this be a lesson! Never second-guess…"

        flashes empty wallet

        "the OZ BARGAINER!"

exits in a flurry of expired 4c off fuel vouchers

        • waits 18 years at self service for the 20x points on gift cards gift cards to activate

Is there a limit on the number of gift cards that can be used in-store for a purchase?

    • +2

I am not aware of anyone running into a redemption limit enforced by the checkouts:

      • For Ultimate/Celebration gift cards, the OzBargain record is 44.
      • I am not aware of a specific OzBargain record for gift cards issued by Coles Group (i.e. Officeworks, Coles Group & Myer), but I would assume 44 would also be achievable.

However, split payments are at the discretion of the staff member operating the checkout. In my experience, staff are nearly always happy to do split payments, but there was one occasion where the staff member flat-out refused my split payments request and gave no reason. (I have no idea whether they did not know how to do it, or whether they were having a bad day…)

Btw, if you trying to purchase a gift card and are wanting to use an Ultimate/Celebration gift card as a payment method, the redemption limit should be zero, because Officeworks checkouts should be set up to automatically block this. I assume the same is true if you are wanting to use a gift card issued by Coles Group as a payment method in the same situation.

Damn it. I used 35 the other day. Only got 5X points too. If id known there was a record I would’ve grabbed $20 cards. It would have been an honour.

  • So you can’t buy gift cards and get the 10x points but can you use gift cards to pay for the item and still gain the 10x points?

  • How does this go with OnePass' 365 day return no questions asked policy?

… buy $xxx's from office works - don't open anything / keep receipt. Wait till your points arrive .. return the item, get your refund.

Can’t speak for OnePass bonus points but returns at Coles group shops deduct the points from your account too

      • Yep, returns at Officeworks will deduct points from your account. It’s possible to go negative with Flybuys points if you redeem points and then return a purchase. Guess you could close your account at that point or just abandon the account.

Returning tech products at Officeworks isn’t covered by the 365 day policy. It’s not obvious from OnePass’ website but they have a disclaimer saying individual brands may have exclusions. The staff member or manager at Officeworks may take pity on you and allow the return anyway - they have for me. Never hurts to ask.
