    Are the meals good?

    • +2

they are ok, pretty standard airline food, not the best, not the worst

      • +2

        Sounds average

        • +11

lol, then don't fly Jetstar. Most of us are flying for the cheaper fares, and put up with the food to spend more at the destination.

          • -2

@souths123: You might have to put up with a stop over too

            • @freeb1e4me: this sale is a dud. I usually buy at least one fare during their birthday sale, but not this time (for international)

              • @souths123: Might be OK if you book 6 months+ ahead…

                • @freeb1e4me: I always book that sort of time frame or even 9-12 months if there is a good sale fare. I will see what their next lot of birthday sale fares are like once the return for free is finished, they usually have a few different types of sales during the "birthday" sale. Maybe they might have something I want then. I was wanting something to either Bali or Fiji for late Oct/early Nov this year, or Bali early May.

      • do they offer free food? I thought no free food

        • it is a budget airline, apart from the base fare, everything else costs $$, unless you upgrade your fare, but if you do that, you don't get the discounts on seats and baggage.

        • Yes if you’re Hypoglycemic you will get a lollipop

    • +11

Just bring your own snacks like a good ozbargainer should

    • +2

I've found them decent. They're like buying a frozen meal from Coles/Woolworths and heating it up in a microwave… Which is pretty much what they are.

      • Premium ready meals might be OK once washed down with some wine…

    • +2

      Expensive and horrible.
Source: flew to KIX last year on JQ.

Mind you I just flew QF to NRT and it wasn't that much better

  • +4

not really that great compared to previous years…usually have more of an international selection for late in the year, but most (from Sydney) are for next Feb/March. Hoping the next tranche of sale fares include some good fares to say Bali, Fiji etc for early Nov/Dec, or even Oct…at the moment only Vanuatu.

    • +1

Was excited to check it out, but unfortunately (at least for me) the dates are quite limited to SE asia - offerings are slim noting I can do Melb or Syd

  • Anyone found any return for free fares yet?

    • +1

I haven't even searched yet as I wanted either Bali or Fiji for later this year, but they don't have any in this lot of sale fares for this year…..they normally have Nov/Dec and Feb/March, but this time only Feb/March (from Sydney anyway) unless going to Vanuatu or Australian cities.

    • +1

The time range is very short.. like one week for a lot of destinations. its listed on the sale page

    • +1

I just searched for Phuket and the only return free fare was not a direct flight, so pretty crap offering. Bali, I found a few direct flights back if you are travelling mid Feb

    • +1

Brisbane to Osaka next month, sitting at about $380 with free return. I'm certainly considering it.

      • is that total? or before all the fees/taxes?

        • Generally I don't add insurance/seat selection/checked baggage. That should be around the amount that hits checkout.

  • +2

I dont know about you guys, but the fares appear no less than the normal fare that you pay for, especially when you look at the final amount that you are paying.

    • are you a club member and logged in and did you find the $0 fare for return price? I found return flights for two (base cost) $524 for Bali from Sydney, but not very many flights at all with the $0 direct flight

      • +3

Yes, and yes. They snuck up other costs to you in airport fees etc, which to be fair, are costs to them anyway. But if you were to consider whether this is a bargain, you have to look at the final amount that you pay for vs what you normally pay.

As someone who has a small hobby at looking up flights for holidays i dream about, i have a rough understanding of the prices, especially conglomerated prices on holiday portals like trip.com or agoda etc.

        • if I wanted those dates for Bali (which I don't) I would have booked. Even with the extras of seats and baggage (we only pay for one checked bag and standard seat selection, which are discounted with Club membership) and even if we bought a few meals, this is still a great deal for 2 to Bali from Sydney. Have to say though, this is a lacklustre sale this year, and I am usually pretty happy with their Birthday return for free sales.

  • +1

Return from Bali for free back to Adelaide had a stopover in Melbourne…. No deal

    • +1

yes, I found the only one for Phuket (from Sydney) and a stopover on the way back…..this is a crap sale

    • +1

There wasn't many direct flights available on that route. I jumped on at 12 when the deal went live and could only see a few seats.

I did manage to return flights for $250 in the end but I was flexible with dates

  • For 4 people family, all 4 people need to join Club Jetstar?

    • +2

      Only one i believe

    • +2

Club member can book on behalf of everyone else

      • +1

Jetstar Club member must be one of the travelling party

I tried to split bookings in the past but the offer didn’t apply to th non club member booking even though I was booking it under a club member account

  • +3

Shame their arent any dates for later in year to japan!

  • +1

Found a few $239 return Gold Coast to Bali in March and about $310 from Brisbane instead. Pretty damn good

    • Sydney for Phuket the free flights are already gone and Bali there are only a few with the $0 and some of them are with stopovers. Not a very good sale for international (from Sydney) anyway…..I usually look forward to the Birthday sale, and apart from during COVID, always book something, but not this time. I only hope the rest of their sale week is better than this offering. They normally offer fares for the end of the year but only Vanuatu from Sydney this time.

    • can you share your dates for brisbane ?

  • +6

Currently in Japan thanks to a previous Jetstar deal ($421 return)

    • How’s the weather?

      • Just came back, its not bad - bit of occasional rain, but otherwise nice and pleasant

  • do i have to be a member to see the $0 flights ? i can see the discounted member price, but not the $0 return flight.

    • prob, although I can tell you now, I am a member and for international for next year for the sale there were none left for Phuket and only a few dates left for Bali (from Sydney) when I checked 30 minutes ago. (I wasn't actually interested in the dates so I only checked when someone was asking on here) Prob have to check early tomorrow morning when it goes on sale for the general public. I am sure they will release more seats for that. Today is only for Club members, so there are prob very limited seats for the $0 fares today.

    • Public Member will see $0 return after 48 hours

  • Have these Jetstar sale dates ever occurred within school holidays or near them?

    • +1

not for the birthday return for free…have always been feb/march and nov/dec for as long as I can remember. They release new sale fares after the return for free sale finishes later this week. You could try then.

    • For Victoria yes

    • They have, but can be rare / sell out very quickly.
I’ve got a trip planned for July school holidays - booked in one of the return free promotions last year

    • I got Bris to Melb in school holidays in January this year just gone

  • stingy

  • +4

Very stingy, the worst selection of dates I remember seeing. Often book these, but this time only 1 window of 6 weeks this time pffft , normally 3-4

    • I literally checked every date of the route i was interested in the range and even with just 1 adult selected there was not one return free flight = false advertising

  • +1

horrible, needs 2-3 connections to get to korea or japan. cheap price, now i see why. i don't mind paying more to go straight there.
i'll just do domestic for this deal.

  • Any idea why the return free fare shows up when i search just adults, but when I add a child, the same fares are there, but no free return and the price is also jacked up?

    • not sure, maybe only 2 left for that flight?

      • Same fares/times still available though. It looks like that date is off the list now. Must've been a price error or just a special fare that is gone now.

  • Whats the cheaperst way to get to Renmark in Adelaide? without driving

    • +1

a walk from Paringa …. casual float down the Murray perhaps?

in seriousness, I'm afraid we'd need a few more details to answer this one, like from where and when…

    • google.com/maps
      Premier Stateliner
      Hitchhike

    • From Sydney that is my bad

  • Can’t seems to find any $0 return flights … do you need to have an active jet star member account to see the discounted flights?

  • Do they release new tickets after the 12 hour priority access window for Jetstar members or its only the leftovers for the non-members?

    • doesn't look like they did

  • Sale is a fizzer

  • +4

I bought tickets to Sydney last sale and made a brilliant saving, really thought I was being smart.

That's until I was informed my flight was one of several that Jetstar never intended to operate and cancelled 4 hours prior to departure citing "staffing issues".

The best they could do was put me on the first flight the next day, and since it wasn't an international connection I wasn't eligible for accommodation, so I slept in the airport instead of the hotel I booked in Sydney and was 3 hours late to my friend's wedding engagement the next morning.

I was $200 out of pocket for lost accommodation, sleep-deprived and best of all: I paid to be treated like this.

    Never again.

    • yea, there were a few for the last minute flight 'cancelled' and got nothing back but out of pocket for $$$$ last minute flight. Would the travel insurance cover anything if had bought???

  • You really need to buy the flights to Asia within the first hour of the sale. There is no time to consult with friends & family or be indecisive with travel dates.

  • No a single free return for within 2 weeks period I can find for Osaka or Seoul. All of them are 6 weeks or more, who can be on holiday for that long?
