Excellent for metro customers, while at the same time Amazon decided to completely abandon customers outside of metro areas. Would have preferred that they continue selling to all of Australia, instead of focusing more on last minute shoppers. It's not as though major country towns expect fast delivery, although having little to nothing that isn't marked as "unavailable to ship to that address" (even with minimum quantity items) is a bit crap. I cancelled my prime membership because its useless if I can't get anything other than matcha tea delivered in the top 100 grocery items, but I doubt they care.

Amazon are using their own delivery drivers for a lot of things these days - sending them out to non-metro areas would likely mean their driver is spending a day driving from their warehouse to you with very few other items in their vehicle. Would not be economically viable.

Do agree they need to address it somehow, whether they charge a delivery fee (or increase the minimum spend for free delivery for outside metro to make it worth their while) etc

Yeah agreed. Not expecting them to take a loss, but two years ago 80% was available, last year that dropped to maybe 40%, this year its practically 0%. If they aren't willing to service certain areas, then be upfront about it. If people want Amazon digital services, have a different rate. Personally I wanted the delivery side and never used the digital side. Offer to refund prime memberships, and exit the delivery market outside of metro area. They've been using a mixture of couriers and Australia Post over the past few years. If they want to switch to using their own delivery drivers, its their business they can do what they want - but to pull the pin in this way just seems unprofessional (moving the goal posts after paying a 12 month subscription). Its also misleading to say that building their big warehouse here in WA was going to lead to better product availability, without explaining who that benefits.

    • I thought the same. I was quite confused about 1-2 years ago that why I don't see any pricing from Amazon AU as the seller, and I did ask them about if it's a system glitch. They then told me they will investigate, but never said that they are stopping servicing the remote areas.

  • Amazon next day delivery will be done by private contractor, my $545 BOSE Ultra was left outside my front door on rainy day!

Most of the time they deliver to wrong address and showing someone else door on the delivery tracking.

"Most of the time" is a bit of a stretch, don't ya think?

Massive stretch. I get amazon deliveries 3-5 times a week, only had one wrong incorrect delivery (was by Aus Post) - managed to locate and recover item + refund from amazon as they had already deemed it lost.

    • Not sure what you're expecting them to do here, was there a suitable alternative that was undercover?
You can leave delivery instructions if you would rather a more suitable location to leave it, perhaps somewhere undercover.

They also have pickup locations available if you want to ensure safety of more expensive items etc.

  • Order delayed. Good start!
