Hi all, just purchased a chest freezer to store excess food. Temperature setting is at -18C Any recommendations for freezeable containers that freeze well, won't warp or crack? Bonus points if it helps reduce freezer burns.
Containers for Chest Freezer

Thanks for your feedback. Where do you get your seal bags?
What about for stews and curries?I put my stews and spag bol them in a Kmart plastic container and then move them into a Aldi freezer bag once frozen. This way they are squarish in the freezer to save space.
I use this one https://www.amazon.com.au/Wevac-Vacuum-Keeper-Commercial-Sto…
But it is a pain having to seal both sides. Best to watch something on TV while doing it. Stews and curries I'm not sure. My vacuum sealer does come with this hose attachment thing that might be for that but I've never investigated it.The heat sealing edge of my cryovac machine is about 1 inch off the base.
This means you can fill the bags to lay flat at about an inch high if that makes sense?
A great way to minimise freezer burn is to cool the food as much as possible (at least 4C) before storing in an airtight package/container.
Is vaccum selar the one who they use in the
Sous vide
indeed
Thanks
Recently got a chest freezer myself, and was going to post saying thanks for this and to follow the comments… but we're not looking for the same thing! I was looking for advice on storage (i.e. baskets, boxes) for the packaged (i.e. vac-sealed bags, freezer bags, pre-packaged) food items.
Having said that, my advice would have been Tupperware Freezer Mates, as I use them myself. But they could be hard to get these days… I found a listing on Amazon, but it's for $230! (to be fair that could have been close to normal pricing for Tupperware…)
If it's vacuum sealed then it doesn't matter what container you put it in, you could get some wicker baskets if you wanted.
It doesn't really, but I want something that
- Won't scratch/damage my freezer
- Won't deteriorate being in a freezer
- Won't affect thermal conduction
- Won't fail under expected loads
- Doesn't look terrible
- Maximises usable storage space
- Isn't hard to manage
I was thinking some metal wire baskets, but concerned about the metal feet and/or handles damaging the freezer
Ooh to save you from trawling the freezer? Good thinking! I should look into that too. Which freezer did you get? I got the hisense hrcf 146.
I hope Tupperware going into liquidation would benefit us bargain hunters ;) ASICnews
We got a Westinghouse 300L (WCM3000WE)
I got some wire racks for my chest freezer. Work great in combination with vacuum packing.
https://www.cheapaschips.com.au/search?q=wire+storage&option…Just curious what you use the chest freezer for?
Is it stocking up on meat when there is a very good price,
Yeah, either cheap/discount or bulk purchases. Number of nearby factory outlets and Costco.
Meats (both butchered and smallgoods) as well as frozen packaged goods - pizzas, HUVUDROLL (:P), fish, chips, veggies.
Nice
Research the properties on freezing goods in there Freezer Container series.
Vacuum sealer is probably the best way to avoid freezer burn.
