Anyone know where to buy a basic kids kite?

Tried finding one today but no luck. Toy departments these days are full of the usual plastic fluff. Does anyone know of a decent kite that preferably is available from a bricks and mortar store?

  • Purchased this one from Amazon UK which folds up easily into a small bag. Our 4 yr old has no problem getting it airborne.

    • ebay.co.uk has Item number: 280858759436 pocket kite for under $11 delivered. Quick delivery to Sydney (less than a week, although post can vary). only green version, I asked and the girls version not expected.

  • Uhm, I remember fun times making it with dowels and japanese paper. Much more recently (<3 years ago), we successfully made one from garbage bag plastic and the plastic sticks that come with balloons.

  • Many thanks for the responses. I saw some kites at Australian geographic shop. Not sure if they would fly though.

Kitesmart.com.au seems alright too. Gets a bit dear with postage though.

  • we picked on up from a $2 shop last year, just a cheapie but works fine.

    • I should check it out.

Australian Geographic had a special deal recently, 30% off wind toys, I bought a kite but it didnt fly. Goddarnit.

  • Depending on the age of your kids, a few choices here from Diamond kites, to serious stunt ones.
Also, maybe one for Kitesurfing for yourself ;-)

Stores in Sydney Sans Souci (near the airport), Glelong Vic, and Clontarf Qld - or post available.

    • Thanks for that - I did have a look, it seems kitesmart.com.au might be a bit cheaper, but at least I could drive to Clontarf.

      • recommend ebay.co.uk pocket kite Item number: 280858759436

  • I see that you are in Brisbane.
Might be off-topic, but might be useful to those who dont know. We went to the Festival of Sails in Redcliffe and they have stalls selling kites. Of course the hightlight is seeing the sails from Galdstone. http://www.redcliffe.net.au/festivalofsails.htm
There is also a Kitefest, also in Redclkiffe. http://www.redcliffe.net.au/kitefest.htm
If you havent bought your kite by then, you may try your luck there.
