  • Why does the label say 1150mg

    Magnesium (from Magnesium Glycinate) 150mg

    • +1

      Magnesium Glycinate 1150mg
      Magnesium 150mg

    • +6

Magnesium glycinate is a combination of magnesium and glycine, the 150mg is the value of elemental magnesium in the capsule.

Be careful and do research with regards to magnesium supplementation, many include vitamin B6 which over time can cause peripheral neuropathy, most people don't need to supplement B6.

These tablets don't have B6 and are well tolerated and absorbed.

This is not Magnesium Glycinate. If you're after effective magnesium absorption with minimal side effects, especially for sleep, anxiety, or muscle recovery, magnesium glycinate is the superior option. Standard forms may be fine for general use or budget supplementation but are less ideal for therapeutic purposes.

edit: I didn't neg you btw.

      • Ya I have bad stomach issues with Mg citrate.

Doesn't seem to matter the dosage

    • +5

Hi, I would be careful taking that product, it also contains a high dose of vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine hydrochloride) which is often hidden in many other products. It can lead to toxicity and cause nerve issues.

What is much cheaper is Magnesium Hydroxide Powder.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Best-Naturals-Magnesium-Hydroxide-…

Pure magnesium hydroxide powder for making your own magnesium water (Magnesium Bicarbonate solution). 1 teaspoon makes 1 litre of magnesium water concentrate using carbonated water or a Soda-Stream if you have one.

Magnesium Bicarbonate is the most bio-available and effective form of magnesium available and only exists in the solution form (cannot be made as a powder supplement).

    How to make Magnesium water:

Purchase carbonated (sparkling) water or make your own if you have a Sodastream. The type of water is not important but must be carbonated (contain carbon dioxide).

Place the bottle in the fridge and allow it to fully cool. Remove the bottle from the fridge and pour ¼ – 1/2 level teaspoon (using a measuring spoon) of the magnesium hydroxide powder for every 500ml water into the bottle. Quickly screw on the cap and give the bottle a thorough shake. The water will appear milky. Place the bottle back in the fridge. After a couple of hours remove the bottle and give it another thorough shake and place back in the fridge. When the solution is fully clear and there is no residue of the powder then the magnesium hydroxide has fully converted to Magnesium bicarbonate and you now have “magnesium water” suitable for drinking. It may take overnight to fully dissolve the magnesium hydroxide powder.

Notes: Depending on the strength of carbonation of the water, you may not be able to fully dissolve ½ teaspoon of the powder into 500ml, we therefore suggest you start off at ¼ teaspoon and use slightly more for the next batch and see if it fully dissolves.

After dissolving the magnesium hydroxide powder you will find that the water is no longer sparkling or may be slightly sparkling, this is because the carbon dioxide has reacted with the magnesium hydroxide to make magnesium bicarbonate. If you still have some residue of the powder after leaving overnight in the fridge we suggest letting the solids settle and decant the clear water into another bottle and discarding the sediment.

Hello, thank you for that detailed response. This is amazing and why I love the internet!

This process is lot more involved though. Much easier to swallow a pill or two instead of doing all that.

Are you aware of a better priced Magnesium Glycinate tablet product currently on the market?

      • I use Ethical Nutrients. However, this also contains B6 so you need to be aware of taking it if using multi V

        https://ethicalnutrients.com.au/products/mega-magnesium

        • Thanks for sharing but that product is worse quality and more expensive.

It contains a mixture of mag types, not as well absorbed, smaller dosage, plus more than triple the price! $32.50 for 60 tablets only, hard pass.

          • +1

@jb22: Thx for sharing re quality. I've found it works well for me and I've put it down to the mixture of magnesium.

I wouldn't purchase it from there. Usually get 240 tablets for around $35.

            Currently at $43 at CW

What did you decide on using ? I'm always happy to try something new

            • +2

@Suspect420: PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM ETHICAL NUTRIENTS AND WAGNER MAGNESIUM.

It should be illegal how much Vitamin B6 both those companies add to their supplement formulas, for no good reason whatsoever. The product you shared has 16X Daily recommended dose of B6 per capsule!

This puts you at a high risk of B6 toxicity and permanent nerve damage.

I decided on Nature's Own Magnesium Glycinate tablets in the listing. It is literally just Magnesium Glycinate, with not unnecessary additions that can cause toxicity.

  • Gotta wait for it to go half price. This is just 15% off.

    • I think it's a new product and considering most of the other Nature's Own products are on half price, I'm assuming they won't make this half price.

Happy to be wrong though. Still best value on the market that I'm aware of.

CW very rarely go half price on Exclusive Size products. Since, they aren't competing with anyone…

Is magnesium glycinate superior to magnesium citrate?
Mainly looking at supplementing occasionally for energy levels. If anyone more knowledgeable can advise.

    • +3

Absolutely glycinate is superior to citrate! It's also much easier on the stomach. Magnesium best supplemented consistently if your diet is not providing you with adequate daily levels. Unfortunately most people are deficient in Magnesium and it is vital to so many bodily functions.

    • +3

It's complicated, while magnesium glycinate can help some people sleep better, this may not be the cause of your specific energy issue. It could be Anemia, thyroid disorder, a sleep disorder the list goes on… As good as ozbargainers are, you should not look to get specific health advice from a forum. I know this is a lame answer, but this is the truth. Test don't guess.

      • Totally agree with this. No one is qualified to give you health advice, other than your qualified health professional.

In terms of absorption though, glycinate is objectively superior to citrate.

  • +1

Glycinate is the best magnesium for sleep. A big improvement compared to years of using other mags. However, like everything else, your body can get used to it and tolerance sets in.

    • For sleep, I think it depends on the person whether glycinate or L-threonate is the better magnesium option. Research still ongoing. Glycinate is cheaper though.

  • +1

    Off-topic

I learnt now the best in it's category for Mag is Glycinate,

    What about ZINC?

    • I'm not a chemist by any means, so keep that in mind.
From what I've learned, most vitamins and minerals are much better absorbed when paired with Glycine eg:

      Mag Glycinate
      Iron Glycinate
      Zinc Glycinate
      Copper Glycinate etc…

All offer better absorption than more common forms.

  • +1

Glycinate puts me to sleep within 30 minutes. I have it with a sleep tea.

    • +3

Wow, thanks for sharing! I think this is the first product that is comparable in value. But I still think Nature's Own is superior.

Each capsule for this product is 120mg of Magnesium (single serve is 2 capsules =240mg).

This product works out to be about just over 10 cents/ 100mg of absorbed magnesium.

Plus you would have to buy two bottles to avoid paying for shipping (if you don't have Amazon Prime) and wait for international shipping times.

The other minor advantage Nature's Own has is that it's manufactured in Australia and the TGA has much more stringent manufacturing than the US, so arguably Nature's Own is better quality.

    • +2

Thanks for sharing, that one only has 67.3mg of magnesium from Mag Glycinate per capsule , the other 37.7mg from a different type not specified.

The Nature's Own is still far better value.

  • +1

Great value. I just wish this Nature's Own Magnesium Glycinate was in capsule form.
