Never understood how these don’t break door frames.

    • +5

They can and do damage door frames, or the plasterboard above the frame which cops some of the forces and may crack. When that happened to me, I decided to invest in a proper home gym which I also don't use.

      • Really? Did it actually happen to you? I though the weight kinda shift towards the whole frame so there is no chance of you pulling down the frame?

        • Yes it happened to me. Cracks in the plasterboard that is. The door frame did not break.

I have the same kind of pull-up bar, purchased from Rebel Sport. A fine crack appeared in the wall, coming out from the corner of door frame. Could be the house I'm in is a bit older or crappier, or doors not as tough as some.

          • @cerealJay: Yeah I wouldn't trust my 100kg body on the door frame.

      • Sometimes investing in a top of the range home gym can help motivate!

How much does this outperform the $18 dollar one from Kmart?

The Kmart one used to be $12. It's a great piece of fitness equipment. This couple of dumbbells, a copy of P90X, and it's all you'll need.

I would suggest that if you're thinking about this, Facebook Marketplace is a great place to look. Plenty of people buy this stuff and never use it. You can lowball fitness equipment pretty hard, and it never really loses its function.

    • Got this during COVID and still going strong!

      • You or the bar?

    • Kmart left dents on the screw

  • Can't seem to find maximum door frame width supported.

  • YMMV but I found this style to be way more secure

    $25.99 delivered for prime members

    • I have this one because my door frame is too wide for OPs type, however, because it sits inside the door frame you have less height clearance and you had to adjust your angle on chin ups to avoid your head hitting the door frame.

      • Yeah I can see that being a problem, I actually have mine set up between two brick walls. (Odd design, that happened to work for our old school house)

I tried one same design as ops one at my parents place that my brother has and I did not feel safe even doing 1 strict pull up , let alone a set of 12 rep. That’s probably more a comment on the way the door frame is designed i guess to be fair

    • How fast can you take it down and put it back up don't want to leave a bar

      • +1

Pretty quick, but I’ve only ever done it twice lol, never really timed it but definitely not as quick as the style in the op (it is in my opinion way safer though)

  • Hard pass. Ive seen the internet videos!

  • it will put dints and cracks in your gyprock and architraves, especially if its pine. there are tonnes on Fb market/gumtree for $10-20.
imo get the wall mounted pull up and dip station.

    something like this https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0DBJ4FHF7?psc=1&smid=A3A7BQ3ZG…

    • based on the photos, it looks like it's physically impossible to do a pullup with that thing..
