What Brand Super Glue (Cyanoacrylate) Do You Find Works Best?

Hi guys,

Looking to get some super glue, always used the cheap Reject Shop six pack but thought. maybe there's better quality out there.

Just wondering what brand do you find works well & has a stronger bond? or are all 'Cyanoacrylate' the same?

Comments

  • all 'Cyanoacrylate' the same.

Yes, and buy the cheapest one such as this
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/utility-3g-super-glue-6-pack_p12…

    • Agree, but I recommend getting a small 5-20g bottle. Those tiny 3g tubes tend to leak and dry out after opening, so they usually end up being single-use.

      • I put them in a small zip-lock bag after opening, and they keep.
It is water (vapour) that makes it set.

    I swear by this stuff

Always have a bottle handy in the shed.

I use that in my workshop too, goes good. Better than the Tarzan grip or gorilla glue options when I tried all three.admittedly wasn’t the most scientific test in the world. Was trying to find something that could reliably bond an acrylic lens to an electroplated plastic plate.

      Ahhh… Loctite… The SnapOn of glues…

      • It always makes scents. Cheers

        • The Loctite that is @ $20 is awesome. Good with PETG.

  • I love this stuff, I buy the 3g cheapies off ebay and keep them in the fridge, because they go off in no time.
I have a bottle of Gorilla 15G, but my usage is so low it has gone thick.
So my take is "It's horses for Courses"

  • I bought some Chemtools brand superglue from Element14 2 years ago. 15g bottle. Just used it last night.

It's amazing how much better some of the chemicals targetted towards commercial/industrial uses are

  • They're definitely not all the same. Is superglue actually the best for your use case? Superglue is strong when being pulled against but is much worse where shear forces are present and of course some materials don't bond well or at all. Anyway my preferred cyanoacrylate are the Zap ones as they comes in thin, regular and thick varities but the Loctite ones are also decent. Depending on use if a silicone based one would be better then the Selleys PowerGrip is decent.

    • I agree. Anecdotally, I've tried the 6pack for like $2 at Bunnings but it just wasn't very strong.

It wasn't terrible as it did bond my fingers together.

  • Iam aware of super glue that tend to dry up after you open them, then I try this UHU 33ml https://amzn.asia/d/coHlAeO, currently no stock, bought a new one last month at $4.50. previously I bought about 2 years before that. I was surprised that the glue didn't get blockage/dry at all.

I just make sure there is no leftover glue on the tip before closing the cover and close it properly.

  • The gorilla glue at Bunnings is the best, noticeably stronger than cheap $2 shop superglue.

  • I had a broken kids bookshelf, took it to a repair cafe not expecting much. A guy had this glue, but it was a 2 step process and he said its way better than superglue. I think it starts with an A. Forgot until this post, guess it worked as theres heaps of books on it now

    • Araldite probably. Just a Selleys brand name for a 2 part epoxy.
