New Home Build - Compatible Alarm and Camera System

I'll preface this with yes, I've seen how many times a question similar to this has been posted. I hate to beat a dead horse, but haven't seen something that really answers my question. I could be very blind, but I thought I'd make a post.

Now that that is out of the way, I'm currently at frame stage of my build, and am looking to put in an alarm/security system and a set of security cameras.

On the camera side, I know I need 8 cameras and a front door bell camera. I want a PoE system, so a 16 channel NVR is probably what I need to. I also know where I need my cameras placed.
On the alarm/security system side of things, I have absolutely no idea where to start.

I'm looking for suggestions on brands and specifics that are decent, without blowing a hole in my bank account. I'd ideally like the alarm system and cameras to be compatible with one another too.

What are my options? Where should I be looking?

Thanks in advance

OzBargain's favourite POE Security System - Reolink.

Alarm system, why? You will have a security camera system which you can use to alert you anyway?

Alarm systems are a bit old school. You just the cameras that are of most concerns to send you alerts if there is movement. I have only my front door bell + front door camera set to alert me.

Alternatively, get wifi door sensors. I have them for my doors and then setup smart switches etc through Tuya to do certain things, including alerting me. So I know when someone opens the front door, back door and garage door through the app. Then at night time, it turns on outside lighting. You could do something like that. If x door opens when your security status (through Tuya) is set to x, then turn on this smart switch which triggers a siren.

then turn on this smart switch which triggers a siren.

mine plays 'Billy Ray Cyrus' music.

    • I guess I like the idea of an alarm going off if someone were to break in gives me peace of mind if nothing else? When I'm sleeping or if I'm away

Each individual camera can do that.

    • And is there a specific camera you would recommend from the Reolink range? The 843a looks good, is there a general consensus for a specific camera around the home?

      • It all depends on the home and what you want to cover and protect. I am a huge fan of the Duo V2/V3 (180 Camera).

I have a mixture including PTZs, Bullet Cameras, Turret/Dome, 180 Cameras and love it. I've replaced a few cameras that were dome or bullet into PTZs or a few Domes that are now 180s.

Look at cameras that have motion-activated lights as well. 2 in 1 combo, camera plus motion activated light.

    • Noob q but

How do you buy tuya and set it up with smart switches for alerts and auto turning on oustide lighting and trigger sirens? Do u need to be able to program it yourself?

I was hoping for a more specific and helpful answer, with peoples experience.
Something that'll address my initial question, combining an alarm system and a security camera system together, as I was not able to find anything on OzBargain

You already have it in the first comment…

  • As someone who had a grub wearing a bally try my front door with his mate at 3:20am this morning, notifications on your phone ain’t gonna cut it.

I’ve got a ring doorbell and it was the chime that alerted me, while the dog slept peacefully nearby down the hallway.

Eufy ecosystem. I use their cameras, floodlights, doorbell, motion sensors and window sensors.

Honestly, think about getting a professional in, especially if you're looking at an intercom or gate setup.

The amount of wiring is significant. My guy ran camera cables in pre gyprock. The electrician had also added the loops in for the panels, patches etc back to a central point.
