  • Do people still use eBay regularly? Unless it's a very niche rare Hummel Figurine collector's item some grandma in Germany has had since the 1960s, I don't see any need for it here for day to day products.

    • +1

There is zero use for day to day products

    • -1

Not that that has anything to do with the post aside from being eBay related

    • Where is everyone selling off their used junk nowadays? I've always used eBay and Gumtree but these channels seem dead nowadays.

  • +4

eBay: if you promote your product and it sells, we take a fee

    parad0x: nooooooo

    • Not really, it more like:
eBay: you pay us extra if we promote your item, even if we don't and you sell it because you have the lowest price or make an offer to someone at a lower price we will still take the extra money for doing nothing.

If the item sells because the promoted link is used to buy it then that's fine but this new rules is total BS. I won't be using it anymore as its now a fee for no service.

  • +1

ebay always find ways to push away the small seller.

    • nevermind its just me overreacting to eBay upending its promotion terms

  • +1

you continue only pay when your item sells
they forgot to proofread the mail

    • AI article, via a lazy human. They (human) should be sacked.

    • sounds like Asian English to me

      • LOL. It's 2025. Pretty sure they can make words sound a bit more correct to the printed language. It's not a B & W Charlie Chan flashback movie night.

    • +1

you continue only pay when your item sells
they forgot to proofread the mail

You forgot to proof read your post as you failed to insert a carriage return so your comment didn't form part of the quoted text.

      • so your comment didn't form part of the quoted text.

        Actually it did

        • You also failed to read my post carefully 😉

  • ebay…
    ebay…
ebay… let your shit rain down

The very existence of ebay.au, and the practises and policies therein, completely and emphatically demonstrates how irrelevant the ACCC is in 2025.

    • +1

I think eBay's just to big of a battle to justify for them

      • +1

Then they are irrelevant. If the ACCC can't (won't) introduce simple rules and regs to stop scams, lies, location deception, quality, safety etc, on the biggest (close to) online shopping footprint, then they are impostors. There was no stutter from govt and their depts when Gerry demanded a GST across the board. Policing and regulation is what the ACCC is mandated to do.And protect Strayan consumers. They are phonies.

cool man. Did you need some foil or you good?

          • -1

@parad0x: OK soldier!. You leave it to OzB to beat the windmill to death.

  • +1

What alternatives do we have to sell the odds and ends from the storage tubs labelled "tech" when we declutter? Some items are a bit niche so they don't go well on FB Marketplace

    • nothing goes anywhere for a fair price there, and I refuse to let Meta own me as well

  • eBay share are up 0.80% on the back of this announcement

  • +1

    I'm done with ebay now.

Or just don't promote any items and then you won't pay the fee….

"what set you free and brought you to me?"
          A promoted listing.

        • Can I marry you, please?

    • was waiting for that one. But 9/10 past sales were prompted payments, the 10th missed somehow, and everything that's going stale is unpromoted. Yes it's an option, if you're wiling to depreciate your listing 3 times a year because it hasn't sold yet. Anything that's been around a while goes on hard rubbish every year so I don't have to fall over it being accessible

      • So ebay have adopted a landfill tax, then?

        • Not sure how that would work even if you weren't attempting to troll the entire thread

      • +1

        was waiting for that one

Yeah, crazy concept of using a service that brings you sales and them expecting you to pay for it.

and everything that's going stale is unpromoted

Then pay for a prompted listing… If you're getting sales, then its a cost of doing business thing. Adjust your prices.

I don't disagree eBay fees are crazy, I hate selling on it as I have to have my prices so high just to cover postage and eBay fees, I try to keep them low, then get some tosser who low balls you a price that wouldn't even cover postage as it has to go into a satchel.

People think 'free postage' is free. LOL

Mate at $20, I'm barely making anything after eBay fees and Auspost costs. I'm not going to take $10 for it. Sure I don't want to land fill it, but I'm also not paying you to take it off my hands.

  • I think there will be a sharp drop in promotions, because currently everything is promoted. Promos might return to actual promotions

    • +6

I've never promoted my items for sale on eBay. They sell and I don't pay the extra fee.

      You should try it sometime.

      • Rebel II

      • What categories are you selling in?

        • +1

Mainly watches and small car parts.

eBay tells me that 56% of watch listings are promoted. I just use accurate key words in the title so the audience I am after will find the item from their search string.

    Wow !!!

Now we know where Albo gets his policy ideas from….

    • +1

Nice to see a functioning party / govt that has policies. ( Even if they don't impact on you.)
But it would be real nice to have an effective (any?) opposition, too. But I think to ask for one with palatable policies, that is a stretch too far.

      • -2

Nice to see a functioning party

'functioning' as in stealing from you?

        • +1

You're thinking of the other mob. It's called Robodebt

          • -2

            @Protractor:

You're thinking of the other mob.

            Nah, Albo stealing people's super…

            • @jv: Big difference, one is, as yet, only proposed,(on ppl with millions at hand) the other was foisted on thousands of innocent, mainly struggling people. Many were forced to borrow money to pay debts that did not exist at law. Some even suicided. Robodebt was a whole other level of deliberate policy that resulted in harm via the LNP.

              • -1

                @Protractor:

one is, as yet, only proposed

Are you suggesting it won't go ahead?

                I doubt it….

                • @jv: No I'm suggesting when you accuse someone of stealing, the theft needs to have occurred. Or if you like apples make a shit orange juice.

                  • @Protractor:

                    you accuse someone of stealing

No accusing, it is a fact.

He is taking people's savings without their permission. That is the definition of theft.

                    • @jv: I think you need to read the actual policy. No "savings" are being taken. For income earned on a balance above $3m you get less tax off set (15% less) so you pay 30% tax on the earnings (only the part over $3m) vs 15% now. Plus to stop people who never declare earnings on assets (as they never sell and pass on when they die) they will include tax on earnings even if the asset isn't sold yet.

                      • @Yabadabadoo: Not income earned, unrealised profits. That is theft.

                        • @jv: nahhh, its just paying the tax before its sold, once sold it balances out. They do it today with investment income by asking you to pay tax based on the returns you had in a prior year. Also its only in limited scenarios and only if your balance is over $3m.

                          • @Yabadabadoo:

nahhh, its just paying the tax before its sold

So we will do that with our houses too then, right? What's the difference, it's your money?

What about 'claiming expenses' before they are incurred? That seems fair…

  • +1

I gave up waiting for the image to open…

    TLDR version?

    • TL;DR:
Starting June 24, eBay's Promoted Listings will charge you an ad fee if any buyer purchases your item within 30 days of anyone clicking your ad — even if that buyer didn’t click the ad themselves. The item must be promoted at both the click and sale times. You’ll still only pay when the item sells.

    • ebay is sharing the love.In reverse.

I mean it's the known business model.
But hey….we need to be reminded now & then.
