Need Advice on Victorian Government Free Vent Covers for Evaporative Cooler

Hello my fellow OzBargainers,

As winter approaches, I need some advice on choosing the right vent covers from the Victorian VEU program.

Could you please suggest a company that provides good vent covers based on your user-experiences? When I say "good," I'm looking for ones that effectively do the job, are easy to apply, and aren't too fragile.

Thank you!

The installers install them, there's nothing for you to do.

Doubt they do much tbh, and I'd hazard a guess they're all the same thing.

    • When I search for 'free vent covers Victoria,' various types of covers appear.
Some of them seem to be of a quality comparable to disposable party plates.

  • They all look the same to me. Thin clear plastic ones that have a seal around the outside and a hook with pull cord to secure it in place. These work well and stop your warm air from rising up into the cold duct within the roofspace, where it gets cooled and falls back down. While they look a bit flimsy, mine have been installed 3 times now and are still good.

  • You may not need it. A good system will have something to prevent backdraft. I imagine it may even be mandatory under modern design rules. Ask the manufacturer about your model.

    • We put some on our old evaporative cooling vents since we no longer use them. Got an rcac installed.

I suspect they do very little though.

Those backdraft flaps don't seal all that well and you still have your warm air getting cooled within the ducting in the cold roof cavity. Best option is to get rid of system and plaster over the holes.
