Optus Changes Their Coverage Advice

Food for thought but since TPG and Telstra has their spat about coverage Optus has quietly got away from removing claims from their website now stating on their wholesale page that they only support 96.6% 4G coverage.

However, on the Optus retail site they have removed all claims of coverage instead left you with a coverage map.

Sneaky Sneaky.

basically admitting their coverage is not nearly what it claims to be.

To be fair, who knows if they live in the 96.6% coverage zone or the 98% coverage zone?
A map is somewhat useful, but considering the difference between Optus and Telstra is only a couple of percent, but results in hundreds of towns with no coverage, the numbers don't tell us much.

    • the 98% was quoted as 3g and 4g coverage, so makes sense they removed the 98% when 3g got shut down.

      • No it doesn't, they were required to provide and claimed to provide the same coverage area following 3G shutdown.
This is a bait and switch, on top of the shonky E000 enforcement!

No telco should be allowed to use this 'coverage' brag as a population based %. It should indicate the coverage of the landscape. The true % is that 98% of ppl outside heavily built up areas have little to no coverage.
telstra has lied for years, and has been busted. The others have lied less, but lied nonetheless about the lived experience of reliabel mobile coverage. Telstra should never have been allowed to jump fwd from one bandwidth to the next generation.Coverage in the regions has plummeted since 3G was snuffed out, and inner city 5G has thrived.
    TLDR
The coverage maps used by telstra set the standard of deceptive marketing (exploited by all telcos) and if the ACCC had any balls ( they don't) they would burn telstra at the stake, for 2 the decades of blatant marketing bullshit.

  • optus is bad

  • I mean, there's a difference between 96.6% 4G coverage vs how good the 96.6% 4G coverage is……

Blanket claims like this means nothing to me…… Vodafone can claim they have 85% 4G coverage but if Voda is amazing at my home vs Optus….. you bet I am going with Voda

    • problem all three for me are amazing with a tower shared by all 700meters away but im like whats the point at home when you have wifi calling
