    What's your usage requirements?

I put my elderly parents on 4G Amaysim (Optus) 200GB plan at $170/yr ($14/month for comparison). Its plenty for their needs.

    Otherwise 4G Kogan (Vodafone) 200GB prepaid is $139/yr ($11.50/month).

    • its for basic social media and some movie streaming.
      is this a mobile deal?

      • +1

Used for home internet (technically mobile internet), SIM card is in a TP-Link TL-MR100 4G LTE Wireless Router (currently $70 on Amazon).

For my parents - 200GB is plenty for occasional streaming, social media, web browsing and emails (standard definition Netflix uses approx 1GB so that's plenty of content for them in a year)

        • thank you so much, will try this one, does this router works on most sims inc 5g?

          • +1

@UbeJam: Short answer yes, 5G SIMS run on the 4G network too.

            Long answer:
            https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/5g-4g-router/tl-m…

            TL-MR100 Router Bands:
            4G: FDD-LTE: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28 (2100/1800/850/2600/900/800/750 MHz)
            TDD-LTE: B38/B40/B41 (2600/2300/2500 MHz)
            3G: HSPA/UMTS: B1/B5/B8 (2100/850/900 MHz)

Bands used depend on the SIM network you choose (more compatible bands the better):
            Kogan 4G (Vodafone) uses Band 5 (850 MHz) Band 3 (1800 MHz) Band 1 (2100 MHz)
            Amaysim 4G (Optus) uses Band 1 (2100 MHz), Band 3 (1800 MHz), Band 7 (2600 MHz), Band 28 (700 MHz), Band 40 (2300 MHz)
            Telstra uses Band 1 (2100 MHz), Band 3 (1800 MHz), Band 7 (2600 MHz), Band 8 (900 MHz), Band 28 (700 MHz), Band 40 (2300 MHz)

            • @Gunther: amazing, thank you so much. Appreciate the help.

    • Hi Gunther, just a question, i was just shocked that we've actually consumed all our 200g data in just 2 months? we got the kogan, we only used it for social media and one or two movies every weekend. did i set it up wrong?

Based on what you have said above, you are a moderate user and would need a plan with at least 100Gb of data per month. Why not get an unlimited plan, that way you don't have to worry about running out of data. Look at the 4g offerings from spintel, Vodafone/TPG/Kogan. Around $50-$60 per month.

Sounds like you are consuming a lot more then you realize - watching 4k media will smash the data.

  • Your basic and my basic usage are probably very different.

So, what is your definition of basic usage?

    • sorry, social media and netflix.

      • Okay, and your location and house type?

Woolworths Everyday Mobile plans are a good deal if, and only if, you get a Woolworths Everyday Rewards card to get the 10% price reduction from that, and can take advantage of their 10% off once a month shop.

I'm on the $60/month for 150GB plan for 250 Mb/s 5G. So it costs me $54/month, And when I do a $200 shop once a month I get 10% off that, $20, so it bring my internet access down to $34/month. I don't really need that much data. I could sign up for the 95GB plan. It'd cost me $25/month with the same discount and monthly shop. I could nearly get by with the 55GB plan that'd only cost me $16/month with the same discount and monthly shop. I'm just too "basic" a user for any NBN plan to be a bargain for me.

Its a matter of what you call basic usage. How much data do you need each month, and how much speed do you want.

Streaming video kills it for you.
For Netflix: Standard definition uses about 1 GB, and high definition uses around 3 GB per hour.
For YouTube: video playback at 480p (standard definition) uses roughly 480-660 MB of data, while 720p (HD) uses about 720MB to 2.7 GB, and 1080p (Full HD) uses approximately 1.5GB to 4.1 GB
Your best bet will be TPG 5g most likely - https://www.tpg.com.au/5g-home-broadband

  • I use Tangerine 5G, but I have it in a 4G only modem. Works fine for the uses that you need it for.

    • Can i use this sim in any router like above?

Hotspot off a phone with Felix. Data past your allowance is shaped to 1.5 mbps unlimited which can be enough for video.
