BYD Service Booking - Which Service Centre Preferred?

Here is my experience with BYD service booking. I booked Blacktown first and they called me and pushed to a very late date not suitable to me. So I booked Parramatta service centre. Nobody rang me to confirm. So I rang the number of the email response of the booking. The number is 02 96857288 and forwarded to a disconnected mobile number. I am doubting the after sale service of BYD which is quite substandard. We quite like the car though there are minor issues.

This experience is just not good. Can anyone share their experience on any centres good or bad? Mine is due for service and needed to be sorted out. Any suggestions for any good centres?

All the service centres are run by mycar, who are run of the mill average in my experience. You're not dealing with BYD directly.

The number you listed there is different to the mycar website, so likely they've put an old/wrong one in the email - https://www.mycar.com.au/stores/nsw/parramatta

Last time I had my car looked at, they're pretty short staffed, there's no one permanently at the front desk (they seem to wander in and out of the mechanics bay)

    • Wandering in & out between working on a car and the front desk is one of the reddest flags ,for me.It rarely ends well.

      • Just curious what stuff on an ev needs servicing? I assume its less than ice?

        • EVs /hybrids still have a lot of moving parts, bearings, suspension bushes, brakes etc, and some components may be more HD or complex than ice.Whether the ppl servicing them are on their game in this field, is another question. Considering there are complex electrical components involved I wonder what formal (not inhouse) tickets they hold?

          • @Protractor: Thanks oh i was more referring to like the regular yearly servicing?

I think like suspension and stuff dont need regular servicing right?

Oh more complex than ice, i just assumed it had fewer moving parts

I wonder if auto electrician now get trained with ev servicing maybe now? Rather thab light vehicle mechanic?

            • @ATTS: Google your questions. I suspect battery weight may impact on the running gear over time

    • There are some other service centres not operated by MyCar and they are even worse. Eg, Automall West at Indooroopilly.

      • I thought BYD in Australia is under Eagers Automotive.

  • The "sales centre" here looks like an old trap house.

Purchases a car with outsourced service network. Wonders why there are issues. FFS.

In the OPs defence, I don't think they might have known it's outsourced.

      • Surely that would be outlined/disclosed when you are purchasing the vehicle. If not, that is shady sales taqtic.

"All servicing is by MyCar Service Centre Network".

  • What minor issues are you having with the car?

    • That is minor - mentioned in the later comments.

  • Call BYD Parramatta, there's a new service centre in Rydalmere though they are not listed on the website yet. I had mine serviced in Blacktown (Prospect) to get the $169 rate specific for 2022/2023 Atto 3. They are fine, part of Landers service Chery, Nissan etc as well.

I've been to Prospect and MyCar Parra.

I'd prefer to go to Prospect, even though you end up booking months ahead, as they actually do the service.

I went to Parra for my 2 year service, and they didn't really do anything. (Not there's much to do per the service manual) but still kept the car all day.
Then when I got there at 5 pm to pickup, started the service then and there (rather than letting me know ahead of time it was going to be late).

In the next service I'll have them look at: (3 year service)
    - Software updates, there's a few that are dealer only (i.e. not OTA).
    - The 'N' on my gearstick is peeling, well known issue.
    - Fogging issue is back - hopefully software updates addresses this, but will let them know.

  • Thanks to @alexlim2000 and @Bigboomboom for the advice. The Rydalmere service centre got back to me after I did the 2nd online booking since nobody responded to my 1st booking.

My BYD also had the fogging issue - need to get it fog fan high for more than a minute to reach reasonably clear view in cold weather. Is it software isssue? Anyway I shall mention it to the service centre to see how it goes. Hope Rydalmere one would do a proper job.

fogging is a physics issue, but software controls how the car tries to manage fog.

otherwise your morning routine might need to include using the app to start the car's AC before you get in.

Also one thing to ask for, is whether you need a new SIM card for remote unlocking and app control.

      • Good idea. Yes - AC can be remotely turned on. The dealer installed sim card works.
