Australian Consumer Law changes (2011) applicable to online retailers ?

Good morning,

I'm in the market for a DSLR camera and some lenses. I was reading into the new (old) Australian Consumer Law changes about consumer rights where purchases are covered by statutory warranties under this law. I just wanted some more information with regard to these questions.

a) Should I look out for this statement in the warranty disclosure ?

"Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure."

b) Many online retailers have 'grey imports' for DSLR's and lenses like Kogan Australia. Under their warranty for the product (say a Nikon DSLR body) it only gives a 12 month warranty. But in their warranty T & C's (http://www.kogan.com/au/warranty-terms-and-conditions/) it has the aforementioned warranty statement (number 21). On the other hand, Nikon has recently been promoting Australian stock from authorized resellers to get the '2 year warranty'.

Does this mean if I were to buy a DSLR body from Kogan and after 15 months there was a failure, I could ask for a refund, replacement or repair under the updated law ?

c) What is a reasonable time frame for DSLR's and lenses to be covered under this update law. I know it would be on a contextual case by case basis, but roughly around how much time. 24-30 months ?

d) Lastly, are the changes applicable to refurbished products (like Apple refurbished products) ?

Thank you all for reading and your input !
