Anecdotes on Selling Qantas Points

Have been churning credit cards for Qantas points for the past year or so, apparently extremely easy with normal spending. Seems the jig is up and they are tightening the CC churning. I thought I was going to use my points for actual travel but it just seems other non Qantas airlines work out better most the time and I barely have time now that I am not a solo traveler and settling into life.

Really I would love to sell my 400k Qantas points off but it seems like the information surrounding it quite lacking anecdotes on success/fail stories and mostly spread out over many years.

I did attempt a quote through points king and they automatically offered something like 1c USD per 1k points which was actually a bit of a surprise but its through paypal purchase with buyer protection. Ideally I want the person who is paying for the discounted flights with my points to be the one "at risk" since they are getting the discount.

I imagine the best way is a single transfer to a single person who fakes being my "cousin" but not sure on what the onus of proof is if they ask down the line.

I do see that there is ozbargain classifieds but there is no sort of reputation feature so I am so sure how common scams are.

TL;DR

How did you successfully sell off your points? Would prefer no suspension of Qantas account but if the account gets suspended I would like to still be paid for my points

Appreciate any help, comments or vouches to websites/resellers and I know its against the T&C of Qantas

Given the risk of losing the points, head to the QANTAS store, snap up/Brogen on sale items and sell them for cash, or sorted family gifts for birthdays/holidays. Far less risk, but lower return.

Doesn't seem worth it anymore because if the person you sell to is doing tonnes of point purchases, they'll get red flagged and so will you.

That said, sell points, take cash, the problem falls on whoever buys them. But they may not be too happy with you.

1c USD per 1k points? So 4USD for 400k? That's about $6.20… If it's $6,200 then sure, sounds pretty good. So long as they're not dodgy (I've never heard from them) and can cancel the transaction on you. Look for sellers talking about it on Reddit or something, see if there are concerns.

    • yeah 6k for the lot but its by paypal as a buyer so they could chargeback etc, thats why i wanted to see if anyone used them. i saw some comments on reddit but too few to make a decision

Imagine if violating a terms of service was classified as fraud

Oh no won't someone please think of the billion dollar company

It's not fraud. It's against their terms of service. But who cares, it's Qantas who stole money from our government and rips off consumers.

You're angry at the wrong person

If you sell on classifieds make sure you receive the money first.
    I wouldn't take less than 1.4c p/p
There has been some significant scarcity, you could probably command 1.5c p/p
Point bookings are time sensitive, so people who need the points ASAP will pay a premium to not miss out on the (classic) reward seat, especially for your medium-long haul business/first flights.

Risk, well there's certainly a risk that the points and accounts involved can be terminated given it's against TOU/TOS.
That's up to you and your buyer's risk appetite.
Make and agreement which details the terms of your deal with them, ie. it is to be the transfer of points from one account to another on xx/yy/zzzz, what transpires after that (such as account termination, points revocation etc) has no recourse, all transactions are final, there are no refunds etc. probably chatgpt something up.

I personally use my points for international business class with an approx value to me at 5-7c p/p, good luck whatever you do!

yeah i did see it was going for 1.4c p/p on classifieds recently but theres no sort of feedback process its just threads marked closed with one comment saying "PM sent". I think I cant access it until 1year member anyway so unless a verification process can fast track it I dont seem eligible

  • Don't QFF fraud get a staff discount?

Points practically never expire, they just devalue gradually over time; so why not keep them for when you reach a point in life when you want to travel or need a new toaster?

  • Selling is easy. There's basically no risk to you. You get cash in your account and the buyer takes all the risk. As long as you're not a moron who sends to 5 people in a short time period you'll be fine.

I sold 190,000 points last year for $1900 AUD.

Buyer sent me the money then gave them login to my qff account where they added the flights and used the points.

I then changed the passwords and it all worked out fine

    Is it risky? Sure.
Do I really care if I got blacklisted? Not really

The risk will come if you keep doing it

    • Why didn't you just transfer the points to his QFF account?

  • Anecdotes are just anecdotes. Nobody here will give you any guarantees about what may or may not happen if you try to sell points.
