Thanks OP, Ended up buying a LS1210GP 10 port POE switch.
will be good for a few cameras to take the load off my crappy OPTUS 'NBN' (ADSL) modem

Haven't looked into the details, but why lower Poe budget on the 10 port vs the 5?

Could buy 2x5port, save $7 and have 130w..

    • and save 10% with the coupon it's showing me

    • Probably same PoE circuit setup, but with more ports, 4W needs to be used to support the ethernet switching for more ports.

While it seems cheaper to go for 2x 5 port PoE switches, things to bear in mind:

      • You need to connect 2 switches together (so both switches lose 1 port each), and 1 switch also needs to uplink to the router, so you have 7 usable LAN ports left, whereas the 10 ports one, you can have up to 9 usable LAN ports (if you get an SFP+ module) since only 1 port needs to connect to the router.
      • By connecting the two switches together, traffic between the two switches may go through 1 gigabit pipe.
      • Can't achieve the full advantage of 10 ports backplane with 2 x 5 port switches.
      • 2 power adapters (total idle power usage is higher).

It comes down to how much PoE budget you really need. 10 port switches generally have 2x backplane bandwidth.

only for city dwellers. so not much of a deal really.

  • Where are all the 2.5gbs switches at
