How strict is Jetstar with Carry-on luggage?

I want to bring my Blackwolf Cuba 75 Backpack as carry-on but the dimentions are probably a couple of center-meters over "71x38x27(+15)cm" to Jetstar's "56x36x26".

Should I bring my dufflebag just incase they don't allow me to bring my bag?

That thing is huge and would probably only fit in an over-head locker sideways, which means no-one else can put their bags away properly. You might get away with it if its half empty, but if that thing is waist high when its on the floor, there is no way you'll get it onboard.

    • Thanks Gary, I'll probably check-in my backpack. Your input was very helpful :)

  • I don't know if anyone would let you on with that.

  • Oh god, it's people like you that ensure that no one else can get their appropriately sized carry on into the bins. You won't get on with that AT ALL.

    • jeez.. a simple no would be nice. Its been a while since I've had carry-on luggage, Whenever I travel via plane I bring my Oakley duffle bag or Icon bag which meets the requirements.

Don't assume because I have this backpack that I ALWAYS bring it with me as carry on whenever I travel.
I was just asking cause I've seen a lot of backpackers bring their bags on the plane and was surprised that they are allowed to bring it on board.

Since I'm travelling internationally, I don't want to bring a lot of baggage since I'll be backpacking for four weeks. In my situation, I just wanted some advice from the OzBargain community…

  • It really depends on the Jetstar staff you get on the day. Sometimes they have people standing near the bag size checker at the gates and if they see someone whose bag looks big they'll pull them over and make them jam their bag into the wire cage. Other times you can walk on with 3-4 pieces of carry on (e.g. duty free, purse, laptop bag, camera bag) and they won't even blink.

    Better safe than sorry though.
