Dont even bother trying. The most expensive retailer I have ever used. The price is always over 0.33$. Still way expensive even after all these referrals.

do you have battery and solar?

    • +1

Don't know where you are located, but I just checked their website right now, and the current live price in Sydney is less than half that, 16c/kWh.

18c right now in SA. Was negative on Tuesday. I was getting PAID to use electricity and charge the battery.

Amber only really makes sense if you have a battery.

what size battery you recommend ?? for it ?
        say for a normal family

        In SA too

was thinking of getting 13Kw Solar + 20KW battery ?
since its a bit more affordable with the federal rebates

        • To size it properly for your own usage:

          -Request your usage data: https://support.solarquotes.com.au/hc/en-us/articles/3600013…

-Work out how much of your "non-solar" usage you want to cover with the battery. If you want to fully cover your worst day (usually around the winter solstice, which would most likely be your least productive day for solar), work out how much you would typically use between around 16:00 to 09:00 at that time of year, based on the data you've obtained above.

-Obviously if you want extended backup for grid outages etc. you can add more. Comes down to your risk tolerance and your desire for added comfort of a bigger battery.

Not sure you did it right. I was with them for a bit, and it was great. Power prices were 8c/kw, 50c/kw, -20c/kw (they pay you).. a bit of everything.

By shifting loads to cheap times my average price dropped to 16c/kWh even without batteries.

Don't think of Amber as a retailer. They're more of a wholesaler with a membership fee. Also note if you don't have a home battery they are probably not going to be suitable for you.

  • Is there still commbank promo? I don't see any in mine now.

  • $120 over a one year period is not a lot considering the savings on rates with a cheaper provider is likely a lot more than $120 over that period

    • Not if you have a huge battery, I make $100-150 on price spike nights and 250-400 credit a quarter (vs 50-100 payment on other retailers)

    • define a cheaper provider.

I was filling my battery at 11c a few days back and selling it at 28c that night.

Wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy

    • +1

      Can you share why?

      • +1

Probably because he didn't have a battery or the ability to load shift.

Amber Electric isn't everyones cup of tea.

I was only talking to a middle manager at Amber today and to quote him "I'm not with Amber at the moment because I don't have solar or batteries."

  • the price I get is 28.7 vs what I pay now with Orign 31.9. Daily they charge 1.12 vs 1.30. So they are cheaper with the discount on membership. But you have to be with them year to get the full benifit of the discount. I churn evert 1-2 months, and with the $50 - $200 credits, it makes no sense to sign up, even if Im paying higher rates.

As an Amber user for a while now, tip is only join if you have a bigger battery than what you need for your home usage.

  • is there a way to get the previous power prices for say 3/6/12mths?

I'd like to do the sums. This month's price rises has pushed peak TOU pricing into the 40-50c/kwh and even offpeak is in the mid-high 20's. How much control do you get over your battery? Can I get it to top up when I like (say overnight) because it'll be a low production day or even fill it up in the middle of the day because we'll be running 2 x ovens during peak.

  • Long time lurker, finally got our solar and 40kw Sigenergy system installed.

I didn't realise Red Energy was shoulder 9am to 5pm. Cloudy day meant not much solar yesterday, so amber gives cgeaper power during day to force charge if needed. Obviously some plans have free power during this time, and might be better suited to your needs.

Anyway being able to sell into a peak price events and mostly self consume, i took the plunge into Amber after lots of research and hesitation :-)

  • I am with Amber and don't have a battery or solar. I am in VIC, should I be looking for another supplier?

I thought there was a price cap guarantee?
