Anyone have any experience with the cerave retinols? Yay or nay?

    • +2

I quite like the refurfacing serum

    • +9

honestly unless you're using tretinoin/tazarotene etc or similar strength, the effects are minimal at best

try starting with tret 0.25% once a week and slowly increase frequency and dosage as your skin tolerates it

Better off getting your GP to prescribe Retrieve cream…

      • Thats adapalene, however its expensive in Australia but can be bought from iherb OTC.

I got 4 tubes when i was overseas.

        Edit: actually thats Differin

They're very very weak products compared to the "real deal", and they often take time to convert into the active ingredient which means they easily dilute further with other skincare ingredients while being vulnerable to UV. They're really not worth the money imo.

The best way to go about it is:
-Get 0.025% tretinoin (ideally gel instead of cream). I get mine from Indiamart for $2/tube which lasts months.
-Stop using other active ingredients for awhile (besides maybe niacinamide)
-See how you respond to tretinoin over 2-3 months (takes some adjusting) while staying on top of moisturising and particularly sunscreen since tretinoin makes you more UV sensitive and thins out the skin barrier in general. Either way sunscreen is important.

If you respond well you're pretty much set for life since 0.025% gives the same anti-aging benefits as higher percentages long term. Otherwise you can increase the % for more cosmetic benefits or just slowly add back in other active ingredients as required.

      • See how you respond to tretinoin over 2-3 months

Usually takes more than that before you see any anti-aging effect for tretinion.

Took about 2 years for me before i saw a significant difference and i was using the original Retin-A 0.01% not the subpar indian versions

        ideally gel instead of cream

        Gel for oily skin
Cream for normal or dry skin

        • Oh yeah, I meant giving it that long just to see how your skin handles the product. 0.025% was too much for my skin unless I diluted it and used it only 2-3x a week. I'm a bit hesitant towards the cream variants just because they break a lot of people out.

          • @TrulyUnicorn: Also

since 0.025% gives the same anti-aging benefits as higher percentages long term

Incorrect. Research shows that 0.01% works better for fine wrinkles. There is no current formulation for 0.01%, you have to get it compounded.

      • I tried 0.025% a couple of years ago, and it wasn't very pleasant. I didn't even go overboard, I did moisturiser sandwiching, etc so I'm hesitant to get back into it

      • Thank you, that's helpful information. Would you recommend the cream or gel or microsphere gel version of tretinoin?

        Does Indiamart ship to Australia?

      • +1

how confident are you with Indiamart product that they are genuine? Do they ship to Australia? Any links you could share?

      • +1

Can you link to the Indiamart one please?

      • hey @TrulyUnicorn any updates to the indiamart inquiries?

Amazon appear to be price matching.

Thanks time to pickup some more cicaplast baume, best facial moisturiser I’ve found. Bonus $5 cashback with Shopback pay in store too.

    • Great tip! I have never done cashback in store before so gotta look into it, is it easy?

      • +3

Never done it either, but apparently pretty easy. Say you want to pay with Shopback, scan QR code and press a few buttons.

        • Confirming it is very easy to do. Store had banners all over advertising the promo too. It gives the $5 discount immediately, so I only paid $19.99 out of my cashback for LRP Cicaplast Baume 100ml although receipt shows $24.99. Great!

  • I’ll be boycotting Cerave because of their ridiculous and terrible ads with the filter eyes and mouth.

    • +4

      Good on you

    • +1

They are problematic in other ways anyway!

  • +2

    Thanks OP.
Amazon price matching some La Roche Posay products too.

  • I’m not the only one sniggering at the name right?

    • +3

That is an unusual way to spell "snickering".. 🤔

      • +3

        British spelling vs American spelling

        • +1

They don't use snigger in America for obvious reasons.

      • +2

Not if you live in Australia or the UK.

    • +3

Lol French is so funny amirite huehuehue

  • +1

Ugh. I love the LRP Anthelios liquid so much, but it's so expensive :(

    • +3

Have you tried Natio Australia Invisible Fluid Facial Sunscreen SPF 50+ 60ml? Ultra-Light Sunscreen Lotion UVA/UVB Protection - Fragrance Free & Vegan Friendly and it's made in aus. Similar consistency and a third of the price. Currently $13 with SS on Amazon if you wanna try! 😊

      • No, but ordered some to try!

Somewhat related to this, has anyone bought Cerave products off ebay sellers?
They are noticeably cheaper there which makes me think it could be counterfeit.

    Appreciate your feedback on this

  • looks like sale ended a day early

    • the prices appear to be the same for me?

      • Looks like they've reverted. It was definitely not 40% this morning
