[NSW] Anyone Recommend a Professional for a Termite Inspection?

I'm based in Sydney. Just seeing if anyone has recommendation of professional they use for termite inspection. Also how much do they typically charge?

Yes. I recommend a professional for a termite inspection. An average punter might not know what to look for.

I will recommend someone from Airtasker. Just planting the seed for a humorous forum post in 3 months time when your dwelling gets destroyed by termites.

  • i paid $395 for inspection, three bedroom, inner Melbourne.

if you are buying a property, usually can get a cheaper rate doing building + termite + pest inspection in a bundle…

  • for a Termite Inspection?

Why would you want to inspect the termites?

Just get someone to remove them…

Flick/Rentokil are the standard go-to franchises but won't be the cheapest.

OCG Solutions are a popular choice covering SW/Western Sydney.

There's dozens of other companies and single-traders doing pest control too.

Get a few quotes and cross-compare. Generally $200 is cheap, $250 is average. But you can get a whole 4-bed double storey house pest sprayed for $250-300 and they'll be looking for signs of termites anyway so doesn't make sense to just do a termite inspection unless you have a pre-existing issue or concern and want to focus on that. The $150-200 call-out fee dwarfs the actual 30 mins labour it takes to do an inspection.

Most newer homes have termite barrier perimeters built-in now so you just need to top-up the reticulation system. That's usually around $400-500.

it took longer than 30 min last time i had my 3-bedroom single storey house inspected btw…

the inspector also used thermal camera to detect moisture on the interior walls…

      • Surely they use a thermal camera to detect heat generated by the termites?

        • termites love damp areas…

I'm tempted to say, no, I wouldn't recommend a professional for a termite inspection, not after the job one company did for the people next door. They got rid of the rats in their roof by chasing them into my roof, then wanted $360 from me to chase them back out. And they told them that the termites in their house were coming from the big tree on my side of the fence, and ought to demand I cut it down. Which they then did. I had to pay to get tree specialists in, who said my tree might have had a few termites in it, as all trees with any dead wood in them do, because that's what termites eat, dead wood, so the termite nests were actually in the dead stumps of the tree in the neighbors own yard that they cut down, and the pest exterminators did nothing about them. Me cutting down my trees too would just create the opportunity for more termite nests and more problems. These clowns were supposedly pest control experts.

The pest control industry has a business model where commercial success depends on finding something whether or not its really there, and convincing you that they have to keep coming back to get you and keep you free of it.

(I have two neighbors who suffer from biophobia. One lot considers wild birds, any wild birds, to be pests. The other lot has a morbid fear of tree branches falling. Gees, I moved into this street precisely because it had trees and birds.)

Maybe the rats were just going back home? As opposed to the (your) termites who were trespassing?

I hear your disdain at the nature haters. That's where humans have arrived. Tech good, nature bad.
Everything has to be neat, soul less and sterile to look at.

All you have to do is bake a cheesecake every morning and put it out the front of your house. Termites are scared of cheesecakes, especially freshly baked ones.

im a specialist ant terminator… cheesecakes will attract ants… can you tell me the address so i inspect the ant infestation?

          • @payless69: wow you clearly didnt get the joke

@meong: Sure but some termite companies are just money collectors.
Our son bought a house that had traps installed. He did the usual checks with his preferred contractor.
Later the company who had set the traps wanted an annual 2k check fee. Upon refusal they trespassed on him to remove them traps but there was no such contract in the sale. I would have sued them! I had read too many dodgy reports. So I do it myself, and got rid of all of them.
Maybe i should have asked jv first?

              • @payless69: Has this post satisfied your mansplaining for today?

I'm gonna leave you alone with your monologue…

    • The other lot has a morbid fear of tree branches falling

Large eucalyptus trees are not called widow makers for nothing.
