They couldn't have made how the game is split up more complicated if they tried.

I was tempted to buy it during a recent steam sale and it was so ridiculously convoluted that I gave up. Top work by the team of consultants that came up with that.

Legitimately such a bad way to split things up.

I got Hitman 2 for free on Playstation. Enjoyed it so decided to get the Trilogy. Realised that I had to buy Hitman World Of assination which is technically Hitman 3 (even the disc shows as it), but with Hitman One and Two included.

I then decided that I wanted the bonus content, which then made it even more confusing working out exactly what pack I want etc.

        • I've got a few of the Hitman games, that I've paid for or were given away on Steam/Epic. I like them but also never played any of them thoroughly, I'd just open it up a couple times a year and play a few hours.

I have never been able to tell if I have Hitman 3. Even when playing Hitman 3, I was never sure if I actually had the entire game or some preview.
From the chart, it looks like I might have the Standard Edition, neat. I should check out Chongqing

I still don't know if I should open Hitman 3 if I want to play a level of Hitman 2, and whether this requires both games to be installed or not.

@crentist: If you have the maps available in hitman 3, then playing it as that is the way to go as it will use the Hitman 3 engine etc, where your version of Hitman 2 may not. A big hint will be whether you have the Camera, as that is a Hitman 3 feature.

    • You're not wrong at all.

But, if you want the 'correct' edition for most people it's the Standard version listed as 'Buy Hitman World of Assassination' currently priced around $102 on Steam. It's got all the core content for all 3 games. Obviously wait for a sale, but that version is 'the game trilogy of Hitman 1, 2 and 3'.

The deluxe version has one great map (Haven) and one wet sneezefart map (NYC) and a bunch of add-ons. It is not worth $50, but if on a sale the deluxe version got right down there, I'd stretch to it just to have Haven.

    Negative reviews

The negative reviews aren't for the game, it's for how it's being sold. Which is complete ass. The game is almost universally praised.

    The game itself is fantastic

Buying the edition with the content you want……. isn’t so fantastic lol.

I jumped in with Hitman 2 on Xbox, back purchased the Hitman 1 content. I later on ended up buying the original Hitman game itself despite owning the Hitman 1 content in Hitman 2 (wanted the extra achievement points!).

Hitman 3 releases, I buy it on pc first
Got it on Xbox later (one version with all dlc at the time, the other just the base levels from 1-3). Purchased it on ps5 shortly after it changed from Hitman 3 to "World of Assassination".

It really should just be base game only (story maps), DLC (1-3 bonus missions), then "Deluxe" being the escalations + other fancy modes. Three editions vs the 8756456777 they currently have.

Chipping in here too - Easily one of the best games (just calling the entire trilogy one game because that's what it practically is now) ever made.

It should just be sold as one game now. Not this weird STARTER EDITION, PURPLE CLOWN MONKEY EDITION, ITALY DIDNT GIVE ME ENOUGH PIZZA EDITION.

Basically buy the option that comes with all the content and ignore the weird trap editions that go on sale to try and give you 1/100th of the content.

This level that is free is considered one of the better levels to (personally I hate that it has two targets + stealing a virus but it is a nice setting).

    Mandatory content guide

If you enjoy Sapienza, buy the World of Asassination Part One. Goes on sale down to $20~ fairly regularly and includes all of the base content from Hitman 1, 2 and 3 which is easily 100 hours if you're a completionist.

i am fairly certain that the "part one" is just hitman 1 only missions.

      • +1

Ah sorry - should have looked at the pic I linked.

"World of Assassination" is the one which includes the 3 base games. RRP is $102.50 but goes down to $40 on sale.

  • Is there an ongoing story with these or is it basically cool bald man kills people? Just curious bc I’ll enjoy this regardless, but need to set aside time to pay attention to the story if it’s any good

There's a narrative and lots of fun interconnection between personalities in the game from mission to mission, but it isn't the point. The WoA games are really designed to be diverse and exotic murder sandpit/playrooms where the point is to replay the maps dozens of times and try every way you can think of to remove your targets (and others in different game modes).

There's a tonne of wild and wacky achievements in every map that hint at insane stuff that'll clearly work, and then you have to puzzle out how to get from A to B. Even if you're not an achievement guzzler (I'm not), this is a deeply fun gameplay loop, and there's enough content in each map to give you a serious amount of hours per setting.

Let’s fkin go this sounds like heaven for me ❤️ Ty for taking the time to write this up! Might get the deluxe edition with all the stuff for Xmas or maybe Black Friday sale

        • As I say in a comment above, on sale the Deluxe Edition makes sense because the Haven map is really good but the NYC map is meh. If you were entertaining paying more you would not pay an extra $50 for those maps and the extra junk. If it were an extra $15-20 overall though, I'd go for it.

So one of the chapter of the game is free?

    • One episode/map, yep.

Im cheesed off that I still need to buy additional DLC for maps that I purchased and was able to play in Hitman 2. Ill need to buy the Deluxe edition upgrade which I didnt know at the time. Waiting patiently for the Steam sale in June now.

  • One episode, and it's a 65GB download in Steam?!

    • It downloads the entire game whether you have access to the content or not

  • +2

200 upvotes for basically a trial game with one single map

    • Just realised that what a bummer
