Best Value for Money Heat Pump Dryer

Hi OZB’ers

I have been putting off getting a dryer for years but with 3 kids at school and winter here I think I am going to need one.

My budget is $1200 max so hoping to find the best value for money available at this price point.

I don’t mind what brand and happy to buy online. I do have a local TGG and HN.

Appreciate any advice/recommendations.

Cheers

Benny

Bosch is our go to for laundry. Most reliable we have had, all built in Germany and Poland. Bosch series 6 heat pump dryer is just over $1k.

  • Just went through this process. A couple of things to keep in mind.

Will it fit on top of your current washing machine? Usually it's not a problem and you buy a rubber mat. Before you buy, just flick the supplier a message and they usually can confirm if it will fit on on top of your washing machine?

They are heavy buggers (about 50kg) when it gets delivered make sure they can place on top of your washer for you. You generally can't wall mount them.

The biggy for us was that you want the spin to reverse cycle, handy with sheets not to get tangled. ]

My preference was also being able to attach a hose, so I don't need to empty the water tank. But not a deal breaker.

I ended up with Electrolux EDH913R9WB 9kg Heat Pump Dryer. Paid $920 at E&S about a week ago when it was on sale. You can usually find it for under $1,000 when on sale. It rated surprisingly high in Choice magazine. So far so good.

  • recently bought hisense HDF5S80H - after reading all reviews; The only con is that it takes long time to dry the bedding stuff - sometimes 3-4 hours. Standard clothes come out dry in 1-2hours. This model supports reverse spinning which is handy to ensure your bedding does not get tangled into a ball.

  • You can pickup a Beko BDPB8010W 8kg Heat Pump Dryer for under $800 with a whopping 5YR warranty. Haven't seen anyone else with a comparable warranty.

    Note:
    * Register your warranty within 90 days of purchase otherwise you only get a 2 year warranty.
    * Not wall-mountable

  • I have the Bosch series 6, it's used pretty much daily and has been perfect so far.

Does it have to be new?

My neighbour was throwing out his Samsung washer and dryer machines.

“Their* both stuffed” he said, and I took them away on a trolley.

The heat pump dryer was full of lint, and the heat exchange panel at the front of the machine was totally blocked with crud. Cleaned it up(2 hours of my time) and it works perfectly. And is now working metalled im my garage.

The washing machine had a 20cent coin stuck in water pipe leaving the barrel. Perfect fit so the machine would fill and couldn’t empty. Removed the coin and cleaned the machine and sold it for $370 on marketplace 2 days later.

When I delivered the washing machine to the buyer they said their old washing machine had died, so I offered to take it away . They accepted that so I took it home , replaced the water pump(the only issue) and sold that for $300.

$670 profit and a free heat pump dryer , in 3 days

.* yes, he spoke the wrong “they’re “

    • You sir, are just amazing!

    • Imagine how many of these appliances head to the scrap heap because too many people dont have any idea how to fix them and getting someone to repair is too expensive.
