Great price on the base system being slightly higher than the Amazon ATL of $139 and hasn't been this low for quite some time.
Obligatory Why is Heroquest so great review
BGG Rated 7.2 Complexity 2.13/5

Hahaha, absolute hero lmao
and i will watch it every time!
Because the best thing about hero quest is hero quest!
And the best thing about HeroQuest is buying yet another copy of HeroQuest
The only way to play GravityLand!
That's a cracking video
Heroquest or Talisman… can never decide which one to get..
I love Talisman but you need a few expansions to make it great
Why not both? :)
I picked up Talisman for cheap a few months back, in part so I could use the miniatures with Heroquest.
Is this kit enough to play with upto 5 players or am I realistically going to need to buy a lot of add-ons?
It would be enough to play with 5, it's quite a big box. There was a lot of expansions on sale recently through JB, EB and Amazon price matching.
You could try the "first light" starter base if you aren't keen to fork out as much but beware it is a 'lite' version that's more a gateway to the game.
To add to @Damannation 's comment, you can have 1 dungeon master (Zargon) and 4 players with the base game.
No need for expansion packs, but you may get the bug and find that you have a growing collection at some point.
I've been painting my minis and am really enjoying that aspect, which I didn't get into when I first had this as a kid.
There are active groups on Facebook and Reddit and lots of YouTube channels if you want to have more of a look before investing.
I got this as a 7 year old. To this day, I still have no idea how to play it. I just got out all the pieces and made cool dungeons.
The best thing about HeroQuest is someone posting this video every time HeroQuest is mentioned.
