Old 28 Degrees Shoppers Protection - You Can Get Your Balance!

This is for the old Shoppers Protection scheme on 28 Degrees (now administered by Hallmark) - It turns out if you call them on 1800 800 230 (don't follow the prompt to be diverted to Latitude - stay with Hallmark) they will actually calculate how much you have left of your $20k lifetime limit! Took them 5 minutes.

Not sure if I should be admitting I still haven't hit my limit and therefore need to hand in my ozb membership card :)

  • Oh nice!! I reckon I’m definitely sub 10k by now..

  • Old 28 Degrees Shoppers Protection - You can get your balance!

Yes, but it also requires you to not have cancelled the card after the monthly fee debacle

  • +1

You mean you don't have an ultra complex spreadsheet calculating every purchase and plotting the exact savings?

    • I do!

    • I tried this and decided it wasn't for me :) but I do have a system..

It's crazy generous. I have a minor chip for a tablet screen after 11 months. I called to ask if the repair needs to occur within 12 months, they said no, anytime I like I can just go get a quote, fill out the claim with the date the damage occurred and attach the quote, then they'll pay up.

Another thing I did one year when I realised you could submit the claim after 12mths was go back over old purchases and compared against ozbargain to see when I'd missed price drops within 12mths, and found about a grand to claim.

      • I hadn't heard of that being able to be done - but it's not always easy to get evidence later on if needed though.. not sure they'd accept an ozbargain post as the evidence ;) the URL linked at ozb would not show the discounted amount anymore

  • How is everyone using their limits so much? I've only used it on tech a few times when I wanted it then and there so didn't wait for sales. Made sure to use on my PS5 when that first came out but that didn't work out haha.

Forgot about the merchandise protection so thanks for that.

    • We use it by buying things ;)
      Not just tech

      • Haha fair, okay so tech is straight forward, clothes I guess, appliances is another one but infrequent, home-wares, toys, books. No services or groceries.

Still though if most of this spend is on discretionary items then it would require $40k spend at 50% subsequent price reduction to hit the $20k. If we take 25% average price reduction then we're talking about $80k in spend.

Guess I've had the card for over 15 years now so could hit it over that time period if was more deliberate about it and used it for smaller ticket items too that add up over time.

Edit: would love to see a spreadsheet from a 20k hall of famer if anyone's keen :)
