With a 5800X3D, Is It Worth Upgrading from 5700 XT to 9070 XT?

With EoFY sales, if I have 5800x3d and do 2k (60-144 fps med/high settings) gaming, is it worth upgrading from 5700 xt to 9070 xt? What about the 5070 or 5070 ti as well?

I think it sounds like a smart upgrade to extend the usage of my AM4 build as GPU should be the one causing the bottlenecks. Just not sure if there's better options as I haven't been keeping up too much with gpu/cpu news.

9070 XT is definately the value upgrade. 5070 has 12gb of ram, I had to get it as it's the only GPU small enough to fit in a velka but the vram is detrimental. 5070ti is great if you can get it as a deal. Your probably in a good position to just wait for some all time lows on the 5070ti or 9070xt, no need to rush.

Are you finding some games are struggling to get good fps on balanced settings? Gotta decide whether it's worth your time to wait or just splurge now.

What are you playing that is struggling? I bit the bullet recently and upgraded to a 9070 from a 3070, which is a smaller upgrade - partially due to annoying driver issues, but mostly because 8gb of VRAM was insufficient for some of the games I was trying to play. The 5700xt is a bit older, and will have more problems - some games are starting to require ray tracing support to even run, which it lacks - but personally I wouldn't bit the bullet until you run into a game that doesn't run well on your existing GPU.

As far as GPU choice - 5070ti and 9070xt are fairly equivalent, but if you are looking to spend a bit less (and just care about gaming) I'd go for a 9070 rather than a 5070 - it's the same price, it's faster and has more VRAM; there's just a couple of edge case games (Black Myth Wukong) that Nvidia cards just do better at. I went the plain 9070 because the prices were less inflated than the XT - looks like it's still about a $250 difference for roughly 10-12% better performance.

  • Thanks for the input so far guys.

The two games that I "struggled" with recently are Monster Hunter Wilds and Expeditions 33. They can run at 60+ fps but it dips quite often to 40ish and requires some tinkering such as modding in the old FSR for E33 or enabling frame gen (causing some crashes) in MHW. I also kinda miss the 120/144 fps range for gaming plus watching my GF's screen who has a 7800X3D and 4070 right next to me makes my setup feel outdated.

Jump to the 9070 XT when prices come down to RRP

      • That's $599 USD or around $921 today, right? Might be a while haha

I believe officially it's $1139 AUD - got to factor in GST and the Australia tax. There were some cards available for that around release, but it was only a couple of models, and they didn't last long. It might eventually get closer to the US MSRP, but I wouldn't expect anytime soon.
