Help Me Decide on a Monitor Please

I bought the 31.5" Philips 328P6VJEB that everyone here seems to love. But I am getting sick of it as the monitor is too wide and make my eyes hurt. Also I feel like the screen jiggles sometimes.

  • The things I want are Curved screen 32 inch and above, high refresh rate , adaptive sync tech, 2k resolution , IPS panel.
  • I don't game a lot anymore but there are some games ill be playing like Dark tide and POE2.
  • Main reason of buying a curved monitor is because i think it will reduce the eye pain.
  • Budget is is $350

I have a 4070 Ti so i can't push high refresh rates on 4k and i wanna go down to 2k.

I come across this monitor AOC CQ32G4E 31.5inch 180Hz QHD

There are others i have looked at

Samsung Odyssey G5 34inch 165Hz VA - reviews say this one has bad motion blur.

MSI G32CQ5P 31.5inch 170Hz

Here is the a comparison to by current monitor vs the one I shortlisted. https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/8c7f3102…

Got any better options for me ?

  • "reviews say this one has bad motion blur" - I think they actually mean ghosting. My CoolerMaster 34" monitor has really bad ghosting too, wish I'd known before buying it.
Dell monitors seem to have a good reputation among ozbargainers.

  • I'm very happy with my 32" Samsung Odyssey G55C FWIW. I haven't noticed any ghosting but I don't game on it that often. Possilbe someone a lot more hard core than me might have issues. Also possible that the 34" version may have a completely different panel specs even though you'd think models in the same range would perform about the same.

  • what do you mean too wide? I dont know about curved ones but these days aren't all monitors the same width to height?? (not including ultra wide)

I heard old monitors are 3:2 but they don't make them anymore like that.

if you are time travelling from the 90's I heard 5:4 was a thing.

    • I split 4 windows on each corner so I have to move my eye balls all the way to the left and right to focus on the windows. Long sessions of doing this is not fun. That is what i mean by too wide. The curve should help by putting the edges in focus.

      • The curve also distorts the content being displayed. Maybe go look at one in action in a store somewhere as it may not suit you.

VA panels are also not great. They're far more prone to motion blur and ghosting as well as blurry text. Consider an IPS.

Also note: 2K is not a real monitor resolution, it's fake marketing for 1440p/QHD.

        • I have two 1440p curved monitors side by side. If there’s any distortion, it’s not noticeable and doesn’t affect my work at all.
At this size, curved screens are much more comfortable to use, and they have a lot less glare compared to flat ones.

      • ok I think I get you. it feels like your eyeballs are moving twice as much.

but the display size doesn't really change.. but with a single window you probably aren't really moving your eyes from corner to corner as much.

  • I have the Samsung Odyssey G5 34inch 165Hz, motion blur is not amazing but that's really only an issue if you're a competitive gamer, playing shooters like Counter Strike or Battlefield.

For MOBA RPG and Strategy, where reflexes aren't being tested the motion blur aspect isn't a problem, and you may not notice it at all.

I wouldn't buy that monitor for $399 though, it's an old model with a panel from 2021.

The stand is super basic and it sits very low to the desk, and it has no USB downstream ports at all. Then again, most budget gaming oriented LCD monitors have poor ergonomics and you usually solve them by replacing it with a monitor / vesa arm. In my case I upgraded the stand with a North Bayou F70 for an extra $49.

  • The distance from your eyes to the monitor is also important. I sit more than 1 arm length further away from the monitor, so 32in flat is not too wide for me at all. I had the philips, and in my experience it's the poor va pannel that hurts your eyes!
I have a dell U32 4k in the middle as my main monitor, and had the Samsung Odyssey G5 34inch 165Hz VA on the side, and I didn't like the samsung! 2K + VA doesn't look good on macos. But for gaming, you might like it if it's the main monitor in the middle. It's very curve, and light. Might need a monitor arm for it though, as its stand is like 💩 Like @scrimshaw said, it's old VA, not worth $399. But it was less than $200 a few months ago :D
