Currently have

Switch OLED
Can only spend on one upgrade: PS5 Pro or Switch 2.

If you're a casual player. I wouldn't recommend upgrading at all.
Either way. You haven't provided enough information to accurately judge what's best for your circumstance.
- Switch 2 is a 'new generation' console, which means it will have games that you can't play on your current Switch OLED. Meanwhile, PS5 Pro is just an iterative upgrade to the same generation, so there won't be any games you can't already play on your current PS5, albeit in some cases with lower graphical fidelity.
- The typical time frame between Nintendo 'new generation' console releases is 6-7 years, so that's your runway if you get a Switch 2. It's roughly the same for Sony console generations, which means the PS6 will probably release in 2027.
Assuming you already own a Switch and a PS5 I'd say neither. Use your money to buy games that already run well on the hardware you already have, or find a better hobby.
From what I can gather from reviews, in strictly performance terms, the Switch 2 sounds like an upgrade from a bad console to mediochre one, wheras the PS5 pro is an upgrade from a mediochre console to a good one. How much that matters is extremely subjective. Some people feel like the Swtich 2 is the console they always wished they had and that finally games look and run well. Mediocre performance for games they love. OTOH going from a mediochre PS5 to a good (not great) PS5 Pro may be worth it for some but it's not going to make the meager collection of worthwile games any more compelling.
Perfonally I think if you own a switch and you aren't using it at last half the time as a mobile device I really don't see the point. If I had that thing sitting next to my television with a screen I'd never use, a battery I don't need, crappy clip on controllers and a dock that shouldn't be necessary I would feel like it was mocking me for wasting my money on so much unnecessary ewaste. But if you are playing on the go regularly then a Switch 2 would be the easy winner.
As a PS5 owner I'm pretty much done with Sony. I had a PS1, still have 2 PS2s, a PS4 and and PS5. I skipped the whole PS3/XBox 360 generation and I'll be skipping the PS6 generation. Assuming I'm still alive if the PS7 ever comes out, I may give it a look, if I still have the capacity to play games.
I'd suggest putting the money towards a gaming PC that can be upgraded. If you already have a desktop PC then you can get a decent graphics card for about the price of either of those consoles, just make sure you get at least 12GB Vram.
easy - both, buy the ps5 pro outright, then swap in the ps5 disc and the switch oled at EB using a price match from "CEX" for a total of $651 trade value for both consoles, problem solved
If you have lots of ps5 discs you’ll need to buy the optical drive too…
Which you then need some internet connected activation for the optical drive for some reason.
And hope they don’t revoke that authorisation at some point in the future. Nothing “Pro” about that.
Both, since OP got a fair bit of money and is confused between needs and wants.
as a ps5pro owner, honestly wouldn't bother unless you were extremely diehard. playing the slow trickle of games or playing heavily online and eeking out the extremely minimal performance gains.
switch2 is unproven and pushing price points that really are not warranted, for the games especially. waiting personally til it establishes itself with actual games.
Switch 2, don't miss the hype train.
I have the same machines and I am ignoring both upgrades. For my use its a waste of money as a filthy casual weekend player
As a PS5 pro and Switch 2 owner (previously had an oled switch) go for the switch 2 go on youtube and take a look at the graphical upgrades and FPS upgrades between the switch 2 and the switch 1. While the PS5 pro also offers graphical upgrades it's not that much.
PS5 disc to PS5 Pro is almost pointless IMHO. Hard to notice any difference while playing and you would have to fork out more for a disc drive.
Short answer: neither. Enjoy what you have. Save some money.
Long answer: Switch 2. If only for the exclusives that are going to come to it, whilst also having more power than a Switch 1/OLED to render games at a higher resolution and faster. Sucks it doesn't have an OLED screen for that price though. I think it's priced too highly at the moment however, and new game prices are getting ridiculous these days (though that's also true for the ps5 I suppose)
I don't really see a point in getting a PS5 Pro if you already have a disc PS5. There's no exclusive games for it, and if you're not pushing 4k120/8k out of it, there's very little difference quality wise between the stock and pro.
I went from the original launch switch to switch 2
Ps5 launch to ps5 proI would say, as above, Switch 2 if you love Nintendo games /want the new MK World etc. I guess that's the difference where the Switch 2 will have exclusives on it that won't run on the first console.
Ps5 likely won't have this issue as it's a Pro model, not a replacement.
That being said, if you're a super casual gamer (couple times a week a few hours) and any new Nintendo games don't interest you, don't get any. Save your money, upgrade your PC if you got one/that is old.. Or. Just don't spend anything lol.
Yours is second comment which says upgrade your pc. Any idea or thread which highlights benefit over these gaming consoles? Sorry noob to this gaming console world and want to buy for my 11 yo, which we both are planning to play together and then eventually my 5 yo will join too. TIA
If you're playing with kids, consoles tend to make a lot of sense. Easier to get them involved in a group space.
I would stick with a Switch 2 (if you have no consoles already) for co op/split screen fun with the kids. Get another set of joy cons and you can all play Mario kart, Mario party, etc together.
My view above is more about solo gaming.
Thank you mate. Is there any limit with total number of players who can play together in switch 2 if you know?
@bhavesh8sep: That'll be per game. But the two games I mentioned for example allow 4 at a time locally. Which should cover your scenario.
That said, definitely look up what kind of games you want to play/play with them and check max players per game.
I wouldn't necessarily outright buy a console for just a couple games so ensure you want other options too.
What are you deciding based on? There's dozens of relevant criteria and personal preference options to make this choice.
Do you currently play your PS5 and upgrading to a Pro? How often do you use it?
Do you have a display that makes the most of the PS5 Pro (i.e. 4K 120 or 8K?) or stuck on 1080p.
Do you prefer to play on higher performance machine tethered to a large TV, or on the go handheld?
Do you want to play PlayStation games, or prefer Nintendo ones?
